NC Department of Labor Youth Employment Certificate: The NCDOL Youth Employment Certificate is a fantastic opportunity for minors to work legally following safety regulations! To get this certificate, applicants need to be at least 14 years old, have parental permission, and complete an application. It’s a great way for young workers to gain valuable experience while staying compliant with state labor!

*Junior Veterinary Scribe Certificate: Washington State University College of Veterinary Medicine has launched an online veterinary certificate program for high school students ages 16 and older. This is an excellent opportunity for additional learning for high school students interested in animal science and veterinary medicine! The course consists of 10 asynchronous online learning modules, meaning the students can complete the program at their own pace. Upon completion of the requirements the student will receive a certificate acknowledging their success in completing the Junior Veterinary Scribe certificate.

What Are the Student Benefits of This Certificate?

  •  Additional skill sets for obtaining a job while in high school or in a post-graduation veterinary career. Career possibilities include full or part time scribing for remote online companies, in-clinic scribing careers and further education for receptionists, veterinary assistants, technicians and other team members.

  •  A unique educational experience earning an entire certificate in the field of veterinary scribing to showcase on both college and job applications.

  • The ability to demonstrate professional communication with the ability to facilitate appointments and client interactions to strengthen the veterinary-client-patient relationship within the veterinary practice.

Reinforce information in vet tech and vet assistant courses with the introduction to veterinary medical terminology, anatomy and physiology and pharmacology.

Duke University Neuroscience Experience (DUNE), a full-time, 8-week, paid summer research internship (June 15 – August 7) for local high school students. DUNE’s mission is to provide students with scientific skills, mentorship, and professional development opportunities to position them for success in STEM fields.

-High school students can apply online from December 15, 2025 – February 8, 2026. Two (2) letters of recommendation from non-relatives are also required. To apply, students must:

  • Be a current sophomore or junior (grades 10-11 for the 2025-2026 school year); and

  • Attend a public or charter high school in Durham, NC.

*Biowork Certificate Pre-Apprenticeship Program: June 16- August 20, 2026

A specialized program for current juniors and seniors, designed specifically for students on the autism spectrum in the standard course of study at Durham Technical Community College. Register for an information session.

* North Carolina A&T State University - College of Agriculture: Research Apprenticeship Program: a two-week, residential, hands-on research experience designed especially for rising high school juniors and seniors interested in the food, agricultural, and environmental sciences.

Program Highlights
✔ Dates: June 14–26, 2026
✔ Location: NC A&T campus — Greensboro, NC
✔ Experience: Students work directly with university research scientists on independent research projects, gaining invaluable lab and field experience. 

✔ Collegiate Exposure: Participants live on campus, explore Greensboro landmarks, and enjoy a true taste of college life.

✔ Stipend & Costs: A stipend is awarded upon successful completion and later enrollment in a CAES major; program participation is fully funded except for a $25 non-refundable application fee
