Principal’s Update Week of: 8-2-26

As we begin Week 3 at Rogers-Herr Middle School, I want to thank our students, families, and staff for helping us build such a strong start to the school year. Our scholars are settling into routines, making new connections, and embracing what it means to be a RAM. Your continued support, flexibility, and partnership have played an important role in making these first weeks a success.

Thank you for continuing to partner with us on this journey. Together, we are building a school culture where every scholar is challenged, supported, and inspired to reach their fullest potential. We look forward to another great week as we continue building a year filled with learning, growth, and celebration.

Early Release Day

Wednesday, August 5, is an Early Release Day. School will dismiss at 1:20 p.m. Please plan accordingly to ensure your scholar has transportation arrangements in place for the earlier dismissal time.

Technology Fee

Families, please remember that Durham Public Schools (DPS) assesses an annual technology fee to help maintain, repair, and replace student devices, as well as support the digital resources that enhance teaching and learning. The Technology Fee is due at the start of each school year.

If you have not yet paid the $15 fee for this year, you may pay online at

https://durhampublicschools.givebacks.com/shop/items/5fcb45451ef6

Families experiencing financial hardship may qualify for a waiver or reduction.

Online Payments

We want to share an important update regarding our online payment system. Durham Public Schools has transitioned from OSP (Online School Payments) to Givebacks. As a result, Rogers-Herr Middle School will no longer accept online payments through OSP.

Beginning immediately, all online payments; including school fees, locker rentals, field trips, athletic fees, fine arts fees, donations, fundraisers, and other school-related purchases must be made through our Rogers-Herr Givebacks Store.

Athletic Update

Voluntary conditioning will be held August 3 - August 7 for 7th and 8th students interested in football. Athletes must have a physical on file prior to August 3 to begin skills development and conditioning. Study hall begins at 3:20pm immediately following dismissal. All athletes will report to the auditorium right after dismissal.  Parents should pick up participating students by 5:30pm. Please contact athletic director, Mr. Nicholas Tabron with questions regarding athletics @Nicholas_Tabron@dpsnc.net

Effective Communication

Open and consistent communication between home and school is essential to every child’s success. If you have an immediate concern or question, we encourage you to reach out to your child’s teacher first, as they are the primary point of contact and best positioned to address classroom-related matters.

Should additional support be needed after speaking with the teacher, please don’t hesitate to contact your child’s grade-level administrator. We are here to partner with you to ensure the best possible experience for your child.

Problem solving early and often are among our top priorities. If you need help navigating this process, please do not hesitate to contact the main office at any time by dialing 919-560-3970.

Thank you for making Rogers-Herr an extraordinary place to learn, work and grow! We are looking forward to seeing all of our Ram Scholars Monday morning. As always, Rams ROCK!!!
