We are excited about the first day of school, Monday, July 20, 2026! We’re thrilled to welcome back our returning students and families, and we extend a warm Rogers-Herr welcome to the newest members of the RAM family.
This school year promises to be phenomenal as we focus on student engagement and learning. There’s no doubt Rogers-Herr is home to the best students, staff, and families on the planet! Our guiding mission and this year’s theme, “Built for Greatness,” will inspire and empower us all to achieve great things.
We believe that a strong partnership between school and home is essential to each child's success, and we’re committed to working alongside you to make this year unforgettable.
A few important reminders for the first day of school:
Students will be permitted to enter the building beginning at 8:00 AM.
All students should plan to arrive at school no later than 8:15am.
Parents and guardians, please “kiss and go” in the carpool line.
Car riders must be dropped off in front of the building—parents and visitors will not be allowed to walk students inside.
Do not park in surrounding lots or walk your child across the street.
Do not let your child out on the street. For everyone’s safety, all drop-offs must occur in the designated carpool lane.
Staff members will be present in the carpool lane, front lobby, and throughout the hallways to welcome and assist students as they arrive.
NC Cell Phone Law
North Carolina has passed a new law restricting student cell phone use in public schools during instructional time. Specifically, House Bill 959 prohibits students from using, displaying, or having a cell phone turned on while class is in session.
We kindly ask all parents and guardians to have a conversation with their child about the importance of following this law and keeping cell phones put away during class.
We will review the new law and discuss expectations and consequences with students during their RAM Chat next week. Thank you for your support as we work together to create a focused and distraction-free learning environment.
Team and Teacher Placement Requests
At Rogers-Herr, we are committed to creating well-balanced teams that best support the academic and social success of all our students. To ensure that no single team or class becomes overloaded, we do not accommodate individual requests or preferences for specific teams or teachers.
Our team placement process is thoughtful and intentional. We take into account a variety of factors; including academic performance, behavior, race, gender, and other important considerations to create balanced, equitable learning environments for every student.
We understand that some students may not be placed on the team they were hoping for. Please know that being on different teams does not limit their ability to connect with peers. Students will still have many opportunities to socialize and work with classmates from both teams through:
Shared elective classes
School clubs and extracurricular activities
Athletic teams
School-wide and cross-team events throughout the year
We appreciate your understanding and support as we work to build strong, inclusive communities across all teams.
Effective Communication
Open and consistent communication between home and school is essential to every child’s success. If you have an immediate concern or question, we encourage you to reach out to your child’s teacher first, as they are the primary point of contact and best positioned to address classroom-related matters.
Should additional support be needed after speaking with the teacher, please don’t hesitate to contact your child’s grade-level administrator. We are here to partner with you to ensure the best possible experience for your child.

Carpool Safety Procedures: We anticipate long carpool lines the first couple of weeks of school. Here are a few things you may do to help ensure the smoothest and safest carpool process possible:
Do not arrive before 3:00pm. Arriving before 3:00 only contributes to the backup on the main road before carpool begins. The carpool line will not begin before 3:20pm. All buses must be released before the carpool line may begin.
Remain in your vehicle. Parents should not walk up to the door or gather in front of the building. Carpool students will not be released out the front door after 3:00pm.
Display the name placard in your front window.
Inform others of the car pool process. If a relative or different person is picking up your child from the carpool for the first time, inform them of the current carpool procedures, remaining in their vehicle and expect a long wait time before they arrive so they are not alarmed when they arrive and see the line.
Be calm, kind and patient. We are working diligently to ensure students come down quickly. Parents have two options, carpool or bus transportation. If you do not want your child to ride the bus for whatever reason and you are choosing carpool. Patience is key!
Walkers and Bike Riders – Students are not released to walk home or bike ride home without prior approval. If you want your child to be a walker or bike rider email Nicole Edmondson - Nicole_Edmondson@dpsnc.net, Lisa Richmond - Lisa_Richmond@dpsnc.net, and Kiara Simpson - Kiara_Simpson@dpsnc.net and the school will follow up with a phone call to confirm. Once approved, your child will be given permission to walk or bike ride home. Please note, there is a special dismissal process for our approved walkers and bike riders. Walkers and bike riders are dismissed together to meet a Rogers-Herr staff member outside the school and not in the front of the school. The walker/bike-rider roll is taken and then they are permitted to leave campus at one time. A request for a student to be a walker or bike-rider must be submitted 24 hours in advance and may not be submitted the day of. Due to heavy traffic and safety concerns, students will not be granted approval to walk across the street towards the Wachovia or Biscuitville area.
