Principal’s Update Week of: 9-14-25
Dear Parents and Guardians,
This is our last week before intersession, and I truly appreciate all the hard work and dedication you’ve shown leading up to this point. Let’s finish strong together and carry that momentum forward. Thank you for continuing to give your best for our Ram Scholars each day.
I want to sincerely apologize for the confusion surrounding the recent safety alert. The message was sent as soon as we received the information to ensure families were notified quickly. Because of the length, the alert was shared through a Bitly link by text. At the time, I did not realize that the link was also attaching itself to the bottom of past ConnectEd messages, which understandably caused confusion.
Please know that we truly value open communication with our families and are committed to keeping you informed in ways that are both timely and accessible. Your feedback is appreciated, and we will continue working to strengthen our communication practices moving forward.
Thank you for your patience, partnership, and support as we work together to ensure the safety and well-being of our students.
Rogers-Herr NJHS Sock-tember Drive!
Shout out to our RHMS National Junior Honor Society scholars for successfully completing their very first service project at the NC Food Bank! Your commitment to serving others and making a difference in the community makes us proud. Now, Rogers-Herr NJHS is proud to partner with the Welcome Baby Organization for their 2nd Annual Sock-tember Drive! Welcome Baby is a Durham-based organization that supports local families with young children through resources, education, and community care.
Drive Dates: Monday, September 15 – Friday, September 19, 2025
Collection Goal: 500 pairs of socks (Newborn through Children’s size 9)
All donations will go directly to families in our community through Welcome Baby’s weekly Giving Closet.
Why Socks Matter for Kids:
● Health & Hygiene: Clean socks protect little feet from blisters, infections, and cold floors.
● Emotional Comfort: A warm, cozy pair of socks helps children feel safe, cared for, and ready to learn.
● Confidence: Fresh socks support self-esteem so kids feel comfortable at school and play.
● Fun Fact: Children outgrow socks faster than any other clothing item—often needing new pairs every season!
Together, we can make a huge difference—one pair of socks at a time! Let’s show our Rogers-Herr spirit and help little feet in Durham stay warm, healthy, and ready to learn.

● Wow Wednesday – Ram Crunch (popcorn for a midweek boost)
● Turn-Up Thursday – Ram Nation Silent Disco

Dismissal
We need your support to keep all of our students safe during dismissal. Some students are being picked up at the bank and the pawn shop. This is a serious safety concern, as Cornwallis Road is very busy, there is no crosswalk, and our officers are not stationed in that area. Please use the proper dismissal procedures for student pick-up.
Additionally, while our signage is outdated, we ask that you continue to make a right turn only when exiting the parking lot and follow the directions of our officers. Your cooperation is essential in keeping our dismissal safe and efficient for everyone.
Thank you for helping us keep our Ram Scholars safe.
Character Counts
Character Counts at Rogers-Herr and for this month of August and September we are focused on the character trait Self-Discipline.
Self-Discipline means showing:
● Self-control
● Self-restraint
● Self-reliance
● Independence
● Being Punctual to class
● Having a Personal commitment to excellence
● Abiding by rules

● Following rules and procedures (without reminders)
As a family, discuss the importance of exhibiting self-discipline daily.

Effective Communication
Strong and consistent communication between home and school is key to every child’s success. If you have an immediate question or concern, we encourage you to first reach out to your child’s teacher, as they are the primary point of contact and best equipped to address classroom-related matters.
If further support is needed after connecting with the teacher, please don’t hesitate to reach out to your child’s grade-level administrator. We are confident that by following these chains of command, your concerns will be addressed and resolved. We value our partnership with you and are committed to working together to ensure the best possible experience for your child.
