Orchestra Boosters

Sherwood Githen Middle School Orchestra Boosters — We're Back!

We are thrilled to announce the reinstatement of the Sherwood Githen Middle School Orchestra Booster program! After years of dormancy, the Boosters are active again and working to support our incredible student musicians and orchestra director, Katherine Ropp.

Our newly elected executive board is ready to serve:

  • President: Kate McCracken

  • Vice President: Michelle Gardiner

  • Treasurer: Natalia Silva Harwood

  • Secretary: Liza Guzman

Since our inaugural meeting on February 3, 2026, we've been laying the groundwork for a strong program. We invite all orchestra families to join us for our next meeting:

📅 Tuesday, June 2, 2026 | 5:30–6:30 PM | Online

We'll share progress updates, present the 2026–27 school year budget, and discuss goals for the year ahead. Your voice matters — we hope to see you there!

8th Grade Promotion Ceremony

The 8th Grade Promotion Ceremony will be held on June 9th. Each 8th grade team will have a designated time for their ceremony. Dr. Major reviewed these details with students in March and a letter outlining the event was sent home. I am linking the letter HERE for reference. Please contact Dr. Major for questions regarding the promotion ceremony.

Transportation (Carpool and Buses)

Carpool: Parents, please avoid using the Staff Parking Lot for morning drop-off as it impedes the arrival of staff members. Also, parents who utilize the church parking lot as a pick-up location, please be advised that this is hazardous to both you and your scholar. We encourage you to use the GMS carpool line to maintain the safety of all.

6th grade car riders are dismissed at 3:20pm followed by 7th grade car riders being dismissed at 3:30pm. No students will be dismissed between 3:00pm - 3:20pm and ALL carpool scholars must be picked up no later than 4:15pm daily.

Buses: To help you stay informed, we encourage you to use the Edulog app to track your scholar’s bus and receive real-time updates about delays or changes. Transportation information and guidelines can be found HERE.  If you have any questions regarding buses, please contact Mr. Carter, james_carter@dpsnc.net. Thank you for your patience and support as we work to ensure safe and efficient transportation for all students
