Good evening Githens families! Please review the following email for the official last weekly update for the 24-25 school year!
*Wednesday, June 11th is the last day of school for scholars! It is also an Early Release day. Scholars will be dismissed at 1:20pm. Please ensure that car riders are picked up no later than 2:15pm. If your scholar has a DPS issued device in their possession, they must return it by Wednesday, June 11th.
*EOG Testing, Make-Ups and Take Two, will commence this week. If your scholar is eligible for either testing session, please ensure that they are well rested and arrive on time for school. Please be mindful that cellphones, headphones (Beats, Airpods, etc;), smart watches, and smart glasses are prohibited in the testing environment. We strongly encourage scholars to leave these devices at home during testing.
*8th Grade Parents: The Promotion Ceremony for 8th grade scholars will be held on Tuesday, June 10th
9:00am - 10:00am Broncos
10:45am - 11:45am Seahawks
12:30 pm -1:30pm Rams
Parking will be available in the bus parking lot and all parents and guests will enter through the cafeteria into the gym. Please refrain from entering through the main front entrance. Parents, we are asking that at the completion of the ceremony, report to the cafeteria to sign your scholar out. Once they have been signed out, please vacate the campus as soon as possible. The next ceremony will begin shortly thereafter and space in the bus parking lot will be needed to accommodate the next group of parents and guests. Thank you in advance for your assistance with this matter. If you have question regarding the 8th grade promotion ceremony please contact your scholars Homeroom teacher or Mrs. Major, 8th grade assistant principal.
*Morehead in partnership with Bull City Running, is hosting a 5k benefitting southwest region DPS schools, including Githens. The details for the race are tentative:

*For our students' safety, we wanted to make you aware that Githens Middle School is currently under a fire watch until repairs are completed on the fire alarm system. A fire watch is being conducted to ensure the safety of students and staff while the building is occupied. Fire Watch personnel are trained to alert building staff and call 911 in the event of an emergency. The safety of all DPS students is always a top priority and we will continue to take the necessary steps as directed by the Durham County Fire Marshal.
