Sherwood Githens Middle School is proud to announce the re-establishment of our National Junior Honor Society (NJHS) chapter in school year 2025-26. The NJHS is an American international student organization with chapters in middle schools. Founded by the National Association of Secondary School Principals, the NJHS has chapters in the United States, the U.S. territories, and around the world. Students are selected for membership through chapters established at schools that have an active affiliation with the NJHS national office.
Githens NJHS has aligned with the national standard for scholarship, which requires a cumulative scholastic average of at least 93%, A, or 4.0 (on a 4.0 scale) or the equivalent standard of excellence. Candidates shall then be evaluated on the basis of service, leadership, character, and citizenship. The selection of each member to the chapter shall be by a majority vote of the faculty council. Students recommended by their teachers for membership have exemplified the qualities of scholarship, service, leadership, and civil-minded personhood. For more information concerning the Githens NJHS, please contact Dr. Charles A. Murrill, Mrs. Sterling Abdullah, or Mrs. Crystal Cahill, the Principal of Sherwood Githens Middle School.
