🎒 Fill That Bus! Fuel the Year – Starts Today! 🚍
Durham, let’s kick off the school year right! The annual “Fill That Bus! Fuel the Year” school supply drive begins today, running through August 8. Our good friends at the DPS Foundation will be leading the effort in restocking the shelves at Crayons2Calculators so every DPS teacher has the tools needed—completely free—for student success 📝📚
What’s happening:
Community-wide efforts to gather essential supplies—pencils, notebooks, art tools, rulers, folders, tissue, and more.
Drop-off bins are set up around the city (libraries, churches, businesses) and at Crayons2Calculators warehouse, 808 Bacon St., open Tuesdays & Thursdays, 11 am–3 pm.
Prefer to support digitally? Financial donations help purchase high-need items efficiently.
Why it matters:
Last year, Crayons2Calculators distributed over $129,000 in supplies, supporting 96% of DPS teachers at 59 schools—and many teachers still spend hundreds out-of-pocket.
👉 How YOU can help:
Donate supplies: drop off at Crayons2Calculators or community bins.
Give online: support via financial contributions.
Share & volunteer: host your own drive or help pack supplies.
Let’s come together and ensure no teacher—or student—goes without this school year. 🔗 Visit www.fillthebus.org for more details and a full list of needed items.

We have our 3rd quarter CDAs this week for 3rd, 4th and 5th grades. Please make sure your students are here and on time so we can have this data to see how our students are doing.
Second grade has a field trip on Monday.
On Friday we have our Fairy Tale Ball parade from 12:15-12:45 for 1st grade. We also have our yearly CAPS Artist performance for the students on Friday. Please ask them on Friday afternoon all about it.

Thank you for being part of the Hillandale Family. We hope you have an amazing spring break.

Good afternoon Hillandale families. This is Mr. Bloom with your weekly message. Next week is a quiet week at Hillandale. There is a dine out night on Monday at Pomodoro all day long. This week in classes, we continue going through the 3rd quarter curriculum while also using small group centers to review concepts from the 1st half of the year.
Please remember to only let your students off in the right-hand lane. Also, please try and refrain from using cellphones while going through the carpool line. We have had a couple of close calls with cars and staff. We want all staff, students and families to be safe during carpool.
Thanks for being part of the Hillandale community. Have a great night.

Good afternoon Hillandale Families,

Good afternoon Hillandale families,
This is Mr. Bloom with our weekly message. This week we continue mid year testing with MClass, iready and quarter 2 cda. Friday the 17th is the end of the second quarter. Starting January 22nd. Hillandale’s family responsibility transportation zone will go into effect. This change will lead to our car pool line will increasing in numbers and more walkers coming to school. We will need to be vigilant in our line to make sure we keep all safe. We have had 2 staff members already this year bumped by cars with drivers not following rules or paying attention. Safety needs to be our number one priority. If you live within a mile from school and received an email from me please fill out the form you received in your email, so we know how your students are coming to school. Thank you for being part of the Hillandale community. Have a good night.
