Githens Vision Statement:
Sherwood Githens Middle School will provide all students with a high-quality education through service learning, leadership opportunities, social development, parent collaboration, and community partnerships in an environment where academic, social, and emotional needs are met in order for students to reach their true potential.
History
In 1965 Sherwood Githens Junior High School was built adjacent to the current Jordan High School on Garrett Road. The school was named after Sherwood Githens, Jr., who graduated from UNC-Chapel Hill in 1936 with a Ph.D. in Physics. During his career, he taught at Harvard, Baylor, Duke and Wake Forest.
In 1988 our current building was completed on land that was formerly owned by Sherwood Githens, Jr. We are currently a middle school serving students in sixth through eighth grade.
SHERWOOD GITHENS PBIS VISION:
Sherwood Githens Middle School expects all students to conduct themselves in a PRIDEful manner, including being Punctual, showing Respect, having Integrity, displaying Dedication, and modeling Excellence in order to maximize opportunities for our students to achieve academic, social, and lifestyle skills competency.
