Jack & Jill Scholarship
The Durham Chapter of Jack and Jill of America, Incorporated is currently accepting applications for the "Power to Make a Difference" scholarship. Candidates will be evaluated by a committee based on their academic achievement, evidence of community service, leadership qualities, and the strength of the essay response for a chance to earn a scholarship with a minimum value of $2,000.00.
The scholarship is available to a graduating senior African American male resident of Durham, Orange, Chatham or Granville counties who is actively engaged in local civic, community, or public service with a high school grade point average of 2.5 or higher. Although not a requirement to apply, consideration will be given to candidates who intend to matriculate to an Historically Black College or University (HBCU) and/or is a first-generation college student. The applicant cannot be a child of an active, tenured, or legacy mother or father of Jack and Jill of America, Incorporated or Jack and Jill of America Foundation member.
The Durham Chapter of Jack and Jill of America, Incorporated was founded on October 9, 1945, and has a rich history. Durham was the sixth chapter founded within the organization and the first chartered in the Mid‐Atlantic Region. Through the years, the Durham Chapter has supported various local and national organizations with monetary gifts and contributions, volunteered hundreds of community service hours, and participated in a variety of activities and events. The chapter has partnered with community organizations such as the March of Dimes, Book Harvest, Hayti Heritage Center, Partners with Youth Opportunities, Boys & Girls Club of Durham and Orange Counties, NAMI Durham and Alliance Health.
