Hope Valley Elementary will be celebrating the diverse cultures of our school and community on November 13 from 5:00-7:00 pm!
We have many opportunities for family involvement:
- bring a traditional food from your culture's cuisine to share
- present and explain special artifacts, handicrafts or heirlooms
- present performance art from your culture
If the United States has always been your home, but your family has spent time in other countries or has special connections to another culture, we welcome your participation as well!
Come and share your family's culture and experiences with us!

October is National Principals Month! Let's share our gratitude for Ms. Whitaker and all of the hard work she puts in to keep HVE running smoothly. Please share a message for Ms. Whitaker, using the QR code on the flyer or using this link . We will collect the messages from the community and share them with her at the end of the week.

Due to rain in the forecast tomorrow, 10/28 walk, bike and roll event has been cancelled.
We’ll take our Bullying Prevention Pledge together and dress up as our favorite characters to highlight the positive traits that make us unique.
Reminders:
No masks
No swords, lightsabers, or any weapon/accessory
Keep it fun, kind, and school-appropriate!

Students should bring donations to their classroom so items can be counted toward their class total. The class with the most donations will earn a special prize!
If students have large or heavy items, our Safety Patrol members will be available to help carry donations to classrooms.
Thank you for helping us make a difference! Every item counts!

As we enter this season of thanks and gratitude, we’re excited to share that a NCCU student reached out to make a difference at HVE! His goal is to ensure that every child receives a toy this holiday season.
You can help by donating a new, unwrapped toy or by contributing through the Cash App or GoFundMe (link is in your email). Together, we can help make this season brighter for every child in our community.
Thank you for your continued kindness and generosity—your support truly makes a difference!

The Title I & Family Engagement PAC Steering Committee is seeking parents and guardians of students at HVE to join the Family Engagement Team. This district initiative requires a two-year commitment, during which parents will provide input on district family engagement initiatives, share experiences, and offer recommendations to help improve programming for families across the district. Participants will also have the opportunity to build relationships with other parents and community leaders.
If you are interested in participating, please email me at paulette_davis@dpsnc.net.
Hello Families!
As part of our district’s ongoing commitment to school safety and emergency preparedness, Durham Public Schools will participate in the Great ShakeOut Earthquake Drill on Thursday, October 16, 2025, at 10:16 a.m.
The ShakeOut is an annual, worldwide event that promotes earthquake awareness and safety. It offers students and staff a chance to practice the recommended protective action during an earthquake: Drop, Cover, and Hold On. While earthquakes are rare in North Carolina, participating in the ShakeOut supports our district’s readiness efforts and aligns with state and federal emergency preparedness guidance.
Goals of the Drill:
-Reinforce life-saving emergency procedures
-Help students and staff build confidence and readiness
-Meet NC emergency preparedness and safety plan requirements
-Foster a culture of safety and situational awareness across all grade levels
