The Title I & Family Engagement PAC Steering Committee is seeking parents and guardians of students at HVE to join the Family Engagement Team. This district initiative requires a two-year commitment, during which parents will provide input on district family engagement initiatives, share experiences, and offer recommendations to help improve programming for families across the district. Participants will also have the opportunity to build relationships with other parents and community leaders.

As part of our district’s ongoing commitment to school safety and emergency preparedness, Durham Public Schools will participate in the Great ShakeOut Earthquake Drill on Thursday, October 16, 2025, at 10:16 a.m.
The ShakeOut is an annual, worldwide event that promotes earthquake awareness and safety. It offers students and staff a chance to practice the recommended protective action during an earthquake: Drop, Cover, and Hold On. While earthquakes are rare in North Carolina, participating in the ShakeOut supports our district’s readiness efforts and aligns with state and federal emergency preparedness guidance.
Goals of the Drill:
-Reinforce life-saving emergency procedures
-Help students and staff build confidence and readiness
-Meet NC emergency preparedness and safety plan requirements
-Foster a culture of safety and situational awareness across all grade levels

For decades, the Woodcroft Swim & Tennis Club has been a cornerstone of youth recreation in South Durham. The Club offers swim lessons, a competitive swim team, school-year and summer camp programs, and family membership opportunities.
From now until October 15, when you sign up for one of the Club’s youth workday or intersession camps, Woodcroft will donate 5% of your tuition to Hope Valley to support our school's PTA. We're tickled pink at HVE today! Last night at the Mr Strongly Show and Raffle, we had a blast raising $2,500 to contribute to our overall OneFundraiser total of $33,000. We're nearly at our $40,000 goal, and today the kids celebrated the success of the OneFundraiser by dancing and singing with Carpool Casanova, and having fun at the Fall Festival and silly stringing our admin team in their shark costumes! Thanks for all the donations so far and making this first OneFundraiser unforgettable!

Everyone is rocking their new HVE shirts today! We've raised almost $30,000 and we're so close to our goal–every dollar raised helps fund all the amazing PTA programs we have planned in addition to classroom licenses for programs like Flocabulary and Science A-Z. Tomorrow is OneFundraiser's Wear Pink or Pink Accessories Day–Carpool Casanova loves dancing and singing with everyone in pink. We will have some pink necklaces and sunglasses to hand out at 7:15 am in front of the school–if you still have yours from last year, use ‘em! Bus riders and walkers will join in the fun!
