🎒 Fill That Bus! Fuel the Year – Starts Today! 🚍
Durham, let’s kick off the school year right! The annual “Fill That Bus! Fuel the Year” school supply drive begins today, running through August 8. Our good friends at the DPS Foundation will be leading the effort in restocking the shelves at Crayons2Calculators so every DPS teacher has the tools needed—completely free—for student success 📝📚
What’s happening:
Community-wide efforts to gather essential supplies—pencils, notebooks, art tools, rulers, folders, tissue, and more.
Drop-off bins are set up around the city (libraries, churches, businesses) and at Crayons2Calculators warehouse, 808 Bacon St., open Tuesdays & Thursdays, 11 am–3 pm.
Prefer to support digitally? Financial donations help purchase high-need items efficiently.
Why it matters:
Last year, Crayons2Calculators distributed over $129,000 in supplies, supporting 96% of DPS teachers at 59 schools—and many teachers still spend hundreds out-of-pocket.

Durham County is offering free breakfast and lunch for children 18-year-old and younger between June 16th and August 1st. You may call (919) 560-2370 or visit the DPS Summer Meals Program website for locations. You may also text FOOD or COMIDA to 304-304 during the summer months to find a site near you with free meals for kids.


Wednesday, June 11th is the last day of school! We will dismiss at 12:15. We hope everyone has a safe, exciting, and relaxing summer. We will see you next year!


It's time for EOGs! All 3rd-5th grade students will take a reading and math EOG and 5th graders will also take a science EOG. Please make sure your children get a good night's sleep the day before testing. We will have a special breakfast for our students on EOG mornings!


Durham Public Schools will be closed on Monday, May 26th in honor of Memorial Day. We look forward to seeing our students on Tuesday, May 27th.

Friday, May 9th is an Early Release Day for Durham Public Schools. School will end at 12:15. If your child rides a bus, they should arrive at their stop about two hours earlier than usual. Carpool will begin at 12:15.


Students will be off from Friday, April 18th - Monday, April 21st for the Easter holiday. We look forward to seeing students back at school on Tuesday, April 22nd!
