With 55 years of experience, the 5th grade team is skilled at building classroom communities that value collaboration, high expectations, and excellence.
The 5th grade team is comprised of bilingual teachers, award winning teachers, former academic coaches, and team members who have lived around the world including Europe, South America, and Jamaica. Their individual and shared experiences are incorporated into their educational philosophy which prioritizes student growth and success, while building lifelong traits such as kindness, integrity, and determination.
In the picture above, from left to right, is Ms. Horne, Ms. Craig, Ms. Malcolm, Ms. Nehring, and Ms. Ferguson. Since 2022, our 5th grade team has had higher student growth metrics than DPS and the state of North Carolina, meaning that our students are learning more in reading, math, and science than their local and regional 5th grade peers. We can't wait to see what our 5th graders can do this year!
