Hunt

May 1st of each year is recognized as Principal Appreciation Day. It's a chance to recognize and honor the significant contributions of school principals. We wanted to take the opportunity to celebrate the best principal we know (and he happens to be ours!) Mr. Hunt! Here are a few things you might not know about Mr. Hunt. He grew up in upstate New York but came to North Carolina each summer to visit his grandparents. He fell in love with this area and decided to move here to become a teacher. He played basketball in college and played professionally in Europe where he won a 3-point shooting competition.

When he moved to Durham, he was hired at Northern High School as a math teacher and basketball coach. He served as Northern's AP and Principal for five years and was the runner up for North Carolina State Principal in 2016! After Northern he worked at Merrick-Moore Elementary School, Orange County High School, and started at Glenn in the summer of 2021.

Since his arrival, Glenn has been in the top 20% for student growth for three consecutive years (first time in school history!), been fully staffed for four consecutive years (one of the only school in Durham!), has jumped two letter grades in two years (exceeding many DPS schools and almost all charter schools), and has some of the highest Teacher Working Conditions Data in the state of North Carolina.

We can't say enough about Mr. Hunt and the passion he brings to Glenn every day to make it the best school in Durham. He is courageous and kind, dedicated and determined. And we are lucky to have him at Glenn!
