D. Crane

Spotlight on Excellence for School Library Month! David Crane joined the Brogden Library team this year alongside veteran Chandra Cook. A published author and curator, David has a deep knowledge and interest in history. His first book was Become as One People: Colonial Identifications for Native Americans in the Carolinas, 1540-1790 and more recently Making the Movement: How Activists Fought for Civil Rights with Buttons, Flyers, Pins and Posters, which is the companion to a traveling exhibition about the material culture of the Civil Rights Movement. Recently, David and Chandra hosted a March Reading Madness Tournament. Students read and logged their pages, received prizes and recognition, and progress was tracked with a basketball display all to develop a culture of reading. Monthly, David produces Dragon News Media Center Newsletter which keeps teachers and staff updated on initiatives and services. Quarterly, updates are shared with administration, parents, and the public. He has been able to collaborate with teachers, including a former student, now an ELA teacher! David and Chandra have created a strong, supportive team that benefits all in the community.Great things are happening in Brogden's Library!
