A young man stands outside with a slight smile, wearing a casual T-shirt. Text reads "Student of the Month, Curtis Berzofsky, Senior, C.E. Jordan High School."

Curtis Berzofsky is an exemplary student and well-rounded individual. Since freshman year, he’s optimized his opportunities. He’s been an integral part of Jordan High School’s nationally recognized theatre program, has consistently taken a rigorous course load, and excelled in both academics and the arts.

According to Scott Michaels, the Falcon Post student newspaper newspaper advisor, Curtis is the heart and soul of the Falcon Post. He consistently communicates ideas and actively seeks ways to improve the student newsletter and himself as a leader. Michaels says that Curtis is inquisitive, communicative, and collaborative. This year the young scholar has organized a group of fellow students from a wide range of grades and clubs to organize a book drive. The proceeds will benefit local school libraries.

“We are fortunate that Curtis has chosen Jordan, and he is truly deserving of recognition as Student of the Month,” said Michaels.

Curtis appreciates the support he receives from educators at Jordan, especially his principal Susan Stewart Taylor. He says she is “one person that has made an impact on my life. She believes in me and does everything she can to support my goals.”

He plans to continue his community involvement throughout his career “and apply myself to be of service to others.” But first, high school graduation, then college.

He plans to matriculate to college next year, work in public service and seek work “that is meaningful and impactful to my community. I am motivated by seeing my work have a positive impact on others.”

Curtis has a plan for seeing this to fruition. He plans to continue his path to success by working with people who inspire him to work hard and learn more. One thing he’s learning how to do is delegate tasks and distribute his work.

In the meantime, he’ll continue to work hard and play hard.

“Two of my favorite commitments right now are tap dancing and serving as a student member of the Durham Cultural Advisory Board with the City of Durham and Durham County.”

He believes that membership on this Advisory Board has by far been his most important accomplishment, expanding his opportunities further to work with inspirational people.
