Shifting the Atmosphere: Senior Josiah Moore Prepares for Greater

Senior Josiah Moore has a presence that changes any room he enters, according to Northern High School assistant Principal Antoine Hargrove. Maybe it’s because the scholar-athlete is motivated by love.

Hargrove said staff members and fellow students are able to vouch for his positive attributes: “kind, pleasant, and able to relate to any student on this campus.”

Josiah credits his mother for the impact she’s made on his life and how he carries himself.

“Her constant love and feedback have had a huge impact on my accomplishments,” he said.

His achievements are stacking up as he makes his way toward life after high school, prepares for college, and plans his career path.

He’s a member of the Varsity basketball team, serving as a Captain, and was crowned Homecoming King this year. He also serves as vice president of the Men of Valor club and has maintained an A average while balancing extra-curricular activities and work.

“The challenge is also balancing and being present and not stressing about the future while struggling to stay grounded,” he admits.

It’s been important to do that while he contemplates matriculating to UNC-Charlotte (his top pick), the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, or East Carolina University.

As to a career? “Financial Stability for sure. I'm not sure what specific career I'll have but I want it to be something I'm proud of and something that's lucrative.” But he emphasizes that “the love and support from loved ones make me want to keep pushing to be great.”

Josiah Moore epitomizes the ideal young man. He is kind, pleasant, and is able to relate to any student on this campus.
