2025 School Counselors of the Year

Durham Public Schools is proud to announce the 2025 Counselors of the Year, recognizing four outstanding professionals who exemplify excellence in school counseling and student support.

Crystal Laws, school counselor at Sandy Ridge Elementary, has been named District Counselor of the Year, the highest honor among DPS school counselors. Laws is celebrated for her deep commitment to student wellbeing, strong leadership, and innovative support programs that help students thrive academically and socially.

Also receiving top honors in their categories are:

  • Elementary Counselor of the Year: Shyquel Allison, Hope Valley Elementary

  • Middle School Counselor of the Year: Tarica Rawlinson, Carrington Middle School

  • High School Counselor of the Year: Wanda Ceres, Lakeview School

These counselors were selected for their dedication to building safe, supportive school environments, fostering academic success, and addressing the emotional and mental health needs of students across the district.
