Alec Virgil, a dedicated educator at Middle College High School, has been named the 2025 Durham Public Schools (DPS) Teacher of the Year. The announcement was made Thursday night during the district’s annual Teacher of the Year Banquet, an event that honors outstanding teachers from across the district.
Virgil, known for his student-centered approach and unwavering commitment to academic excellence, was selected from a group of exceptional educators representing schools throughout DPS. Colleagues and students alike praise his ability to connect, inspire, and lead in and beyond the classroom.
