Azariah Curtain: No Stranger to Hard Work and Driven to Succeed
Northern High School’s Azariah Curtain is a striking model of a superlative: she’s a character-driven young adult with a strong work ethic and consistent leadership in and out of the classroom.
“She demonstrates respect, responsibility, and a positive attitude every day…continually going above and beyond in her academic efforts. Azariah's commitment to excellence and kindness truly make her stand out!” said her principal Emmet Alexander.
Azariah credits her father with instilling these attributes in her.
“My father has made the biggest impact on my life. He helped me realize what I want to do in the future but he also taught me how to be an empathetic and kind person,” said Azariah, whose plan after graduation is to go to North Carolina Central University and major in kinesiology to become a physical therapist. She wants to study at North Carolina Central University.
“I want to open my own private practice, teach at a PT school, or give workshops and seminars, and work in a variety of settings like outpatient, inpatient, sports rehab, or pediatrics," said the aspiring physical therapist.
Azariah said her ambitions drive her to work toward a successful future.
“Something that motivates me is knowing that I am so close to graduation to give up and I have such a bright future ahead of me,” she said.
She is a member of Northern High Schools’ student government and the prom committee.
“Those roles gave me a voice in my school community, a challenge I’ve faced after moving back to Durham from Arizona and getting back on track in high school. When I’m not focused on school, I enjoy hanging out with my friends, planning events at my job, and spending time with my family,” said Azariah.
Her family is an important aspect of her life and she looks forward to celebrating the accomplishment of becoming a first-generation college student.
