Senior Events

The Senior Recognition Ceremony is on Thursday, May 22, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. in the main gym. 

  • Seniors should report to the auditorium by 9:15 a.m. with their cap and gown.  The Senior Recognition Ceremony will honor all of our seniors for making it to this awesome milestone. Various scholarships will be announced/presented as well as awards given by our departments.   

Senior Fest will take place for seniors only on Thursday, May 29, 2025, from 2:00-4:15 p.m.

Graduation

As we are preparing for graduation on Friday, June 13th at 5PM, we wanted to make sure that everyone was up to date on the most current information regarding graduation. More information will be released as we get closer to graduation, however, now is the time to review the bag policy, review the listing of prohibited items, graduation tickets and share ADA information (if applicable). Please keep checking the JHS website for the most up to date information regarding graduation.  Seniors should also be checking Canvas to complete important surveys to gather information for graduation and senior activities.  Keep the following information/dates in mind:

  • ADA Accommodations: If ADA seating is needed for guests, please complete the following ADA Seating Request Form.  Guests requiring ADA accommodations will still need a ticket to enter. ADA seating requests are honored on a first come first serve basis in advance.

  • Special Accommodations: For the hearing impaired the ceremony will be signed. Spanish Interpretation Headphones will be in the lobby for any person who wishes to use them to hear the ceremony in spanish.

Important Dates

  • JHS Graduation Rehearsal: Tuesday, June 10 @ 1:30PM 

    • Each graduate will receive their tickets at the JHS Graduation Rehearsal on June 10, 2025

    • Students who have not returned their Chromebook should bring it to graduation rehearsal.

    • Students will receive their graduation tickets,  parking passes for rehearsal, and other important information.

  • Duke Graduation Rehearsal: Wednesday, June 11 @ 4:30PM

    • Students should plan to arrive to Duke at 3:30PM for parking and walking to Cameron Indoor Stadium

  • Graduation Ceremony: Friday, June 13, 2025 at 5PM

    • Students should plan to arrive to Duke at 3:30PM for parking and walking to Cameron Indoor Stadium

    • Doors open at 4:00PM

    • Graduation Location: Duke University Cameron Indoor Stadium - 115 Whitford Dr. - Durham, NC 27708

  • Diploma Pick up at Jordan High School immediately following graduation until 7:30PM

Attire Essentials

ACCEPTABLE GRADUATE ATTIRE

The faculty and staff of Durham Public Schools aim to make your graduation a memorable experience. Your full cooperation with the dress code is appreciated. Please check with your principal if you have any questions about appropriate dress.

For students facing extenuating circumstances or extreme hardship preventing them from acquiring an item necessary to meet dress code requirements, please discuss the situation with your school's graduation coordinator or principals before graduation rehearsal.

Acceptable Graduation Attire:

  • Dress pants/slacks (no jeans) with a white dress shirt or blouse

  • Dress tie or bow tie (if applicable)

  • Skirt with a white dress shirt or blouse

  • Dress

Additional Details:

  • Dark or neutral shoes (no topsiders, boots, bedroom slippers/fuzzy slippers, or athletic shoes). Caution: Heel height should be comfortable for brisk, safe walking up and downstairs. We recommend flat shoes or wedges as students will be standing for a long period of time.

  • Dark dress socks and neutral hosiery (i.e., stockings, tights, pantyhose) (if applicable)

  • No jeans

  • NOT allowed in the procession: Decorated caps, purses, and book bags.
