Emely Meza

When Emely Meza enters Durham Technical Community College she will be the first person in her family to graduate from high school and to attend college. And it just so happens that her family members are her biggest cheerleaders.

“My biggest motivation is my family,” said Emely. “They always encourage me to do my best and to be the best person I can be.” She plans to do just that. After a year to Durham Tech, she plans to transfer to a four-year university.

Turns out that Emely’’s first day attending a DPS school is also one of her favorite memories.

“I was welcomed with warm arms. I was able to create lasting relationships with my classmates, teachers, and staff,” she said. This has helped to build her confidence and prepare her for a bright future, and her advice to younger students is to believe in themselves as well.

“My piece of advice is to never sell yourself short. Always have self reassurance and confidence in yourself,” said Emely. “You can do whatever you set your mind to.”
