  • Congratulations to Austin Hogan of Hillside High, winner of the North Carolina Jaycees Distinguished Service Award for a Young Educator!
  • Congratulations to Caitlin Donovan, an English teacher at Durham School of the Arts, who was named the Simon F. Terrell Honored Educator Scholar for 2019-20 by the North Carolina Center for the Advancement of Teaching! Donovan will receive an all-expenses-paid scholarship to attend an NCCAT program of her choice.
  • Congratulations to musicians Marcus Gee (New Tech High) and Kiarra Truitt-Martin (Northern High), selected to perform as part of the Youth Orchestra Los Angeles National Festival this July!
  • Congratulations to New Tech High senior Amaree Leak, who participated on the Junior National East Region baseball team at the University of Maryland August 9-11. Leak plays on the Hillside High varsity baseball team and is the son of Anthony Leak, DPS's own assistant director of transportation services!
  • Congratulations to E.K. Powe Elementary School, one of only four schools across the state accepted to the 2019-20 RISE (Redefining Innovative Schools Through Sustained STEM Experiences) Program through the North Carolina State University Science House!
  • Congratulations to Kimberly Perry-Sanderlin, AIG Facilitator at Brogden Middle School, named to the 2019-20 Teacher Advisory Council of the National Humanities Center!
