Principal's Weekly Spotlight - 3/31/2019

Good evening! This is Dr. Moore-Lawrence, proud principal of Bethesda Elementary School, with the Principal’s Weekly Spotlight. We hope that our students and staff enjoyed Spring Break and are ready to return to school refreshed, refocused and rejuvenated.  Please listen to the following reminders about important things happening at Bethesda the week of April 1st.


Monday, April 1st

  • Battle of the Books (Afterschool with Mrs. Kinsey)
  • Bulldog Academy Tutoring (Afterschool)


Tuesday, April 2nd

  • Morning Media Check Out—Please encourage your child to visit the library to check out books.
  • We are excited that Duke University Polished Pebbles Mentoring Program will be at Bethesda to work Fifth Grade Female Students on an Advocacy Project.
  • Science Olympiad Club (Afterschool with Mrs. Sheehan)
  • Bulldog Academy Tutoring (Afterschool)


Wednesday, April 3rd

  • Happy Red for Ed Day—Students and staff are encouraged to wear red to show their support for public education
  • Chorus Rehearsal (Afterschool with Mr. Bridgers)


Thursday, April 4th

  • Morning Media Check Out—Please encourage your child to visit the library to check out books.
  • Art Club  (Afterschool with Mrs. Culberson)
  • Communities in School continues its weekly Incredible Years Program at Bethesda. The program starts at 5:30 with dinner. Free childcare and prizes provided. 


Friday, April 5th

  • Show Your Bulldog Pride by wearing your Leadership t-shirt, sweatshirt, or blue and white


Saturday, April 6th

  • If you know anyone interested in working in DPS, please invite them to the Career Fair at Hillside High School.  On-the-spot interviews and early contracts will be available.
  • We are cheering in advance for our bulldogs who will participate in the DPS Science Olympiad at Southern High School.


Beginning the week of April 8th, 3rd-5th grade students will begin taking the CASE 21 assessment in math and reading.  Reading is on Wednesday, April 10th and Math is Tuesday, April 16th.  5th grade will also take the CASE 21 assessment in science on Wednesday, April 17th.  These assessments are given by the district to see what our students have learned thus far and their readiness for May’s End-of-Grade tests. We will make instructional decisions based on the data.
