Principal's Weekly Spotlight - 2/10/2019

Good evening! This is Dr. Moore-Lawrence, proud principal of Bethesda Elementary School, with the Principal’s Weekly Spotlight. Please listen to the following reminders about important things happening at Bethesda the week of February 11th.


Bethesda’s Career Day is scheduled for April 26th. Those interested in presenting to students during Career Day should sign up on the website. You can also recommend someone to present.


This month is Black History Month. We would like to invite our families to attend our February 28th Black History Program spotlighting the talents of our students and staff as they promote the rich history of black people around the world. 


This week is National Bus Driver Appreciation Week. Be sure to thank your bus driver for bringing our students to and from school safely.


Core Curriculum Fairs, Wednesday through Saturday, Feb. 13-16, seeking community feedback on which curriculum materials will best help DPS teachers and leaders meet student and family needs. Curriculum vendors will bring materials that DPS leaders are considering for public review.  Please check the DPS website for locations and times for the Core Curriculum Fairs.

Tuesday, February 12th

  • Morning Media Check Out—Please encourage your child to visit the library to check out books.
  • 100th Day of School…HIP HIP HOORAY!
  • Science Olympiad Club (Afterschool with Mrs. Sheehan)
  • Barbershop Talk Series, “Building Systems to Support Boys of Color” at 5:30 at the Holton Career and Resource Center, 401 N. Driver St. This is presented by the DPS Office of Equity Affairs.
  • Superintendent’s Town Hall meeting at 7:00 p.m. at the Neal Middle, 201 Baptist Rd., for questions and answers about the DPS Strategic Plan and community budget input.


Wednesday, February 13th

  • Happy Red for Ed Day—Students and staff are encouraged to wear red to show their support for public education
  • Early Release; students are dismissed at 12:15. Please make afterschool arrangements for your child.


Thursday, February 14th 

  • Morning Media Check Out—Please encourage your child to visit the library to check out books.
  • J Happy Valentine’s Day J
  • Art Club (Afterschool with Mrs. Culberson)
  • Communities in School begins its weekly Incredible Years Program at Bethesda. The program starts at 5:30 with dinner. Free childcare and prizes provided. 


Friday, February 15th

  • Show Your Bulldog Pride by wearing your Leadership t-shirt, sweatshirt, or blue and white
  • Dental Health Assembly for Kindergarten and First Grade (Gym; 1:00)
