Good evening!  This is Dr. Moore-Lawrence, proud principal of Bethesda Elementary with the Principal Spotlight for the Week of November 7th-November 13th.

ML’s Moment of Motivation

Nelson Mandela once said, “Education is the most powerful weapon you can use to change the world.”  Education is the most empowering force in the world. It creates knowledge, builds confidence, and breaks down barriers to opportunity.  For children, it is their key to open the door to a better life. As we partner with you to ensure that every Bethesda student has the best education possible, please 1) keep in regular contact with your child’s teacher via phone, text, email, and/or Dojo; make sure your child’s teacher and the office have your current phone number, 2) ensure that your child does homework nightly; homework reinforces what is learned in class, and 3) make sure your child gets plenty of rest each school night so your child can be alert, awake, and focused during instruction. Thanks for helping us help your child be successful.

It’s official, our Bulldog’s name is Rocky!! We are excited and thankful to all who voted and donated.  Rocky and Bethesda’s PTA have tons going on this month.

Please shop Fancloth at until November 12th for Rocky the Bulldog paraphernalia—t-shirts, sweatshirts, jackets, pullovers, hats, tank tops, and more.

Every item purchased supports Bethesda’s PTA and shows your school spirit.

Also, you still have time to join Bethesda’s PTA. From now until November 21st, every student who has a parent/guardian to join the PTA will receive a homework pass for one assignment. The class with the most members by November 21st will also receive a prize. To join the PTA, you can either pay your $6 online at or send in the $6 with your child.

Last Wednesday, November 3rd, Quarter One Report Cards were available online at 5:00 p.m. Please use your Parent Portal account to access your child’s report card. If you need help logging in, please contact Mrs. Davis, our data manager.  If you have questions about your child’s report card, please contact your child’s teacher.

Last Friday, November 5th was our first day of COVID-19 testing, we had over 70 staff and students that participated. Our next testing date is November 19th because school is closed November 12th. You can still register your child for weekly testing at

Thursday, November 11th

We honor our military veterans who have served in the U.S. Armed Forces.  School is closed for staff and students.

Friday, November 12th

DPS is closed for a Mental Health & Wellness Day.

Thanks for your support with all COVID protocol including checking your child’s temperature and wellness before leaving home, ensuring your child has a properly fitting mask, and notifying us if your child has a positive COVID test or is in close contact with someone who does. If your child is not feeling well, please keep your child at home.
