Principal's Weekly Spotlight - 09/06/2020

Good evening! This is Dr. Moore-Lawrence, proud Principal of Bethesda Elementary. I want to start by saying thank you for being awesome members of the Bethesda community.  Over the last few weeks, I have spoken with many of you via email, zoom, phone, text, or face-to-face and one thing is common during all of those conversations—we want our students to be successful with virtual learning and are going to do whatever we have to do to make that happen.  So, together, we refuse to let Zoom, Canvas, HMH, Eureka, Class Dojo, or any other element deter us from our mission—STUDENT SUCCESS!  Please continue to partner with your child’s teacher, administration, student support, and others in the Bethesda community to make sure you have what you need so that your child has what he/she needs.  We are blessed to have each other so LEAN ON ME!!! LEAN ON US!!!

Monday is Labor Day and there is no school for staff or students.

This week, 3rd-5th grade students will take the CASE 21 Beginning of Year Assessments so we can see what students mastered during the 2019-2020 school year.  We will use this data, iready data, and classroom data to make sure we are meeting the needs of all students.

For all assessments, thank you for allowing your child(ren) to work independently; this includes not reading, translating, or assisting with the assessment in any way. It should only be completed under the supervision of the teacher with cameras on and microphones off.

Next Saturday (Sept 12th), Bethesda will host Bulldog Instructional Material Pick-Up Day. Come pick up your child’s Math and Reading Workbooks needed for the nine weeks.  Come get free supplies and materials.  Come get other surprises!  If you have students in multiple grade levels, you only need to come for one pick up time and we will get you all of their materials. You can also return Bethesda library books.  9:30 a.m. -11:00 a.m. K and 1st; 11:30 a.m. – 1:00 pm. 2nd and 3rd; and 1:30 p.m. – 3:00 p.m. 4th and 5th.

We have added a new feature to the Bethesda website. It’s called Technology Help. Go there for tons of tips about how to solve technology problems you may be having with the laptop, hot spot, Canvas, Clever, Parent Portal, and more.

We are excited to announce this year’s first virtual family event—Bethesda’s Family-A-Fair. It will feature literacy, Bethesda’s PTA General Membership meeting, and tons of other great activities for our Bethesda Bulldog Family.  The event is scheduled for Thursday, September 17th and starts at 6:00.  I hear that there are some door prizes that will be given out during the event so be sure to meet us on Zoom.  The zoom link for the event is
