DPAC Hosts “An Evening of Entertainment-Together in Harmony” Event on February 21

The DPS Scholarship Foundation (DPSSF) and Durham Public Schools (DPS) are pleased to announce their annual Arts showcase, An Evening of Entertainment-Together in Harmony is Friday, February 21 at the Durham Performing Arts Center (DPAC), with one spectacular show at 7:30 pm.  The benefit concert, a fundraiser for the DPS Scholarship Foundation, features over 500 accomplished DPS students live on the DPAC stage together in song and dance!  This year we are proud to feature our DPS students in all areas of Arts Education (Dance, Music, Theatre Arts, and Visual Arts) during the event. The DPS Scholarship Foundation provides scholarships for graduating DPS seniors through the show’s profits.

he organizers welcome the Evening of Entertainment (EOE) vocal clinician, Dr. Brett Nolker, music professor at UNC-Greensboro, and professional choreographer Becky Bartlett Ballagh of Texas (a DPS graduate and former performer in the event) along with the vocal clinicians and choreographers for the elementary, middle school, and dance students.  The EOE experience gives our DPS students the opportunity to work with these esteemed guest vocal clinicians and choreographers to produce an inclusive and professional musical performance that is a Durham  ‘must see’ community event!

DPS Arts Education empowers every student through a comprehensive and culturally responsive approach to help develop, challenge, and ignite every child in all areas of their life.  This year’s presentation of An Evening of Entertainment is guaranteed to be a unifying Arts celebration centered around this year’s theme-Together in Harmony.  As you enter the theatre at DPAC you will witness over 100 pieces of DPS visual arts projected across the DPAC stage representing all of our DPS schools!  At show-time, you will ROCK and BE IGNITED to make a difference with over 500 students performing  the 1979 Pop hit by Sister Sledge “We Are Family!”  Other highlights of the evening will include performances of “Sing Together” recorded by Train” , “Seize the Day” from Disney’s Newsies, and “Make Them Hear You,” from the musical “Ragtime.”  Come support our DPS students and a great cause!
