This is Dr. Woods-Weeks calling with the weekly update. Congratulations to  our semifinalist in the National Merit Scholarship Program. Our two semifinalists are   Mr. Jack Weinard and Mr. Theo Reeves. These academically talented high school scholars have an opportunity to advance to the next level of the competition for over 7,000 National Merit Scholarships worth nearly $28 million. Congratulations to the both of you! Shine bright like a diamond.

Mark your Calendar! The first SEMESTER benchmark window (“MOY”) for high school courses is coming up soon! Benchmarks will be administered October 6-12. 2022. Govern yourselves accordingly.

Please plan to join us for our Advanced Academics Information Night on Thursday, September 29, 2022 from 6:00-7:30 pm. Families will be able to learn more about our Advanced Academics offerings and how to support your student as they level up to their next challenging course. Meet teachers, see work samples, and learn more about how increased rigor can help students graduate high school with options for college and beyond. Mark your Calendar!

Are you looking for a college scholarship? The Golden Door Scholarship opportunity  provides college scholarships to undocumented students interested in pursuing a bachelor’s degree. The application is now open and due October 23rd, 2022, at 11:59PM EST. Please see link below for application. Applications are considered on a rolling basis, so applying early is helpful.

Are you interested in a winter sport? Winter sports include basketball, indoor track and field, wrestling, and swimming. There will be an interest meeting Tuesday, September 20th in the main gym at the start of SMART lunch. 

The Riverside Athletics Booster Club will meet Wednesday, September 21st  via zoo. Please contact your team's head coach for more details. 

Please consider making a charitable donation of any amount to the Riverside Athletics program by donating to the Athletics Booster Club.  100 percent of donations will help support athletic programs at Riverside.

Student government elections will be held during homeroom on Monday, October 3rd. We will be electing the class president and vice president for all grade levels. Students are NOT allowed to hand out food, prizes, or try and buy votes in any other way.  Instead, they may campaign through social media, posters, or by introducing themselves to their classmates and explaining why they want the job. Each class will only be allowed to elect within their grade level (i.e., freshmen can only vote for freshmen.) Elections will be done electronically during homeroom on October 3rd. 

Parents, if you have not read and completed the signature forms found in the back of the parent/student handbook, please do so and have your student return the signed forms to school Monday. This ensures that everyone is informed regarding our policies and procedures. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to give me a call.  

The  School Improvement Team will meet, Wednesday, September 28, 2022, at 5:00 p.m. in the Media Center. Mark your Calendar!

Lastly, parents, please continue to help us enforce DPS Code of Conduct by ensuring that your student adheres to the rules,  policies and procedures set forth. Students show your school pride by wearing our school colors on Friday. I will see each of you at the River tomorrow! Roll Pirates Roll!!
