WEEKLY UPDATE/MENSAJE SEMANAL 5/22/2022
Good afternoon, Pirate families,
This is Dr. Woods-Weeks calling with the weekly update. A heartfelt thank you to our amazing PTA for hosting a hearty FriYah celebration last Friday. It was splendid! Thank you for all you do for our school community!
Congratulations to the theater and chorus students for great performances last week as well. Keep up the good work!
Lastly, congratulations to the 2021-2022 Athletics Booster club Scholarship Recipients, Mr. Brandon Diaz-Reyes (soccer) ad Miss Leslie “Dee” Wilson (cheerleading and track and field). The awarded student-athletes were nominated by their coaches and affirmed by the Athletics Booster Club board. These students will receive a $500 scholarship in the fall, we are thankful for the contributions these student athletes have made in our goal to "Help the River Rise" and "Win Durham". Thank you for your continued support of Riverside Athletics.
All, with just 10 days left before we begin final exams, it is important for students to arrive to school daily, on time, prepared to learn. We must keep a laser like focus on academics, so that all can finish the school year strong. Students will begin final exams June 6th - 10th . The exam schedule is on our website. Mark your Calendar!
Our PTA will host a very brief general body meeting over Zoom on Tuesday, May 24th at 7:00pm to elect PTA officers for the 2022-2023 school year and approve the RHS PTA summer budget. Check your PTA e-mail for the zoom link to join the meeting.
Note that all in the Riverside community are welcome to attend, but only members may vote.
The Back-to-School Form will remain open until May 27th. If you have not completed the form, please contact Ms. Stone or Ms. Keim. The goal is 100% completion.
The SIT will meet Wednesday, May 24 in the media center.
The Theatre Arts Department is presenting a Theatre Games night this Thursday in the auditorium at 7:00pm. Admission is $5
Audience participation is welcome! So, bring your family and friends for a night of Improv fun!

Do you like soccer, food, music, and fun? Come to the Destino Success five by five soccer tournament, Thursday, May 26 at 4:00PM behind the cafeteria. Teams can sign up with Ms. Swaim in Room 119 before school, after school or during lunch. Six or seven players per team. Winners get a prize. Come to play or come to watch.

Senior Awards Day is Thursday, May 29th from 9:30am-12:30pm. Mark Your Calendar!
Seniors are asked to wear their college, technical school, or military t-shirt in honor of College Decision Recognition Day.
We will celebrate seniors with a Food truck Rodeo and 102 Jamz at the football stadium. Events begins at 1:00 – 2:45pm. All seniors are required to wear their wristband to enter.
Senior Yearbook distribution and signing will be held in the auditorium from 2:45 until 4:00pm.
We need parent volunteers to assist with senior activities. If you are available, see Ms. Clay for more details.
Deadline to return all library books is June 3rd. Govern yourselves accordingly!
All student-issued technology devices (Chromebook, chargers, and hotspots) must be turned in before summer break. If you fail to return your device, it will be locked, and you will not receive a new device next school year until you return the old one. Govern yourselves accordingly!
The annual Senior Class v. Faculty Basketball Game is scheduled for May 25th at 4:30 pm.
As a reminder:
The Math I EOC Review session will resume tomorrow afterschool from 4:15 – 5:30. We have only one more session after this one. The student who has completed the most sessions, will receive a gift card. Snacks will be served.

That said, parents please continue to help us enforce the DPS Code of Conduct by ensuring that your student adheres to the rules, policies and procedures set forth.
