Good afternoon, Pirate families,

This is Dr. Woods-Weeks calling with the weekly update. Happy Mother’s Day to all the amazing moms who are a part of the Riverside High School community! I hope you are enjoying your day in royal purple Pirate style. Today, we celebrate you!

A heartfelt thank you to our amazing PTA and families for honoring and celebrating our faculty/staff for their wonderful work and dedication during “Teacher Appreciation” week. The lunches and treats were enjoyed by all! We can’t thank you enough for the celebration and all you do for our school.

Also, congratulations to the Riverside Dance Team for a stellar performance of "Universes United". It was truly a marvel adventure.

Last, yet certainly not least, congratulations to Ms. Erikson for being selected as the winner of a Riverside Pirate Hero Award! This award recognizes a Riverside teacher, coach, or other staff member who has gone above and beyond to support our community. Congratulations to all for the great work you are doing and your commitment to excellence!

Next, seniors, please check your email for an important message from Ms. Jacobs. Senior Awards Day is quickly approaching, and we would love to acknowledge all your hard work. If you have been awarded any scholarships, no matter the amount or awarding party, please make sure you report them to us using the Google form linked in her email. I will mention the total amount of scholarships earned as a school community at graduation. Help us celebrate you!

If you need to do credit recovery for a core class that you were unsuccessful with this school year, please reach out to your school counselor ASAP. We don’t want you to miss the opportunity to gain those credits this summer so you can be back on track when school starts in the fall.

As a reminder, AP Exams will continue this week. The schedule for testing times, dates, and locations is available on the RHS AP Exam website. Govern yourselves accordingly!

Parents, we have just five weeks left before we begin final exams. Progress reports were distributed Wednesday, May 4, 2022. If your scholar has not shared that report with you, please ask him/her to do so now. There is still time to improve and finish the year strong. If you have questions or concerns about your scholar’s performance, please contact the teacher of record. We want a strong finish for everyone! Let me know how I may assist.

The Math I EOC Review session will resume tomorrow after school from 4:15 – 5:30. Those students selected to participate please be prompt and on time. Snacks will be served.

Senior Cap and Gown pictures will be taken tomorrow, May 9th beginning at 9:00 a.m. Please bring your very own cap and gown to be photographed.

Finally, Riverside Athletics invites all incoming freshmen to our new student-athlete information night, to be held May 10th at 7 pm in the auditorium at Riverside High School. Come out to meet our coaches and find our way to get involved at Riverside.  Good luck to the men’s golf team as two riverside students’ athlete will compete in the NCHSAA 4a state championships.

That said, parents please continue to help us enforce the DPS Code of Conduct by ensuring that your student adheres to the rules, policies and procedures set forth. Students show your school pride by wearing our school colors on Friday. I will see each of you at the River tomorrow. Go forth and make it a great evening! Roll Pirates Roll!!
