Good afternoon, Pirate families,
This is Dr. Woods-Weeks calling with the weekly update. First a heartfelt thank you to Ms. Clay, Ms. Nelson, Ms. Thompson, Mr. Holley, and all the faculty and staff for a magnificent night in Las Vegas. Yes, Prom 2022 was an amazing event enjoyed by all! Also, kudos to the band and dance team for a spirited performance.
Hats off to Ms. Reeves, our testing coordinator, and the testing team for once again hitting the 95% or better participation rate with our Work Keys exam. I am so thankful for your commitment to excellence and all you do to support our school!
As a reminder, Monday, May 2, 2022, is a TWD. No school for students. School will resume on Tuesday, May 3 at the regular time.
AP Exams are slated to begin tomorrow, May 2, 2022, at Bethel Church. The schedule for testing times, dates, and locations is available on the RHS AP Exam website. Govern yourselves accordingly!
Progress reports will be distributed Wednesday, May 4, 2022. If you have questions or concerns about your scholar’s performance, please contact the teacher of record. Let me know how I may assist.
Senior Cap and Gowns will be delivered Thursday, May 5, 2022.
"Teacher Appreciation Week is this week and the Riverside Community will be celebrating and recognizing the wonderful work and dedication of our staff and teachers. The PTA will be sponsoring the following appreciation events:
Tuesday May 3rd: Teachers can enjoy a grab-n-go boxed lunch provided by Zwelli's Kitchen. Chef Zwelibanzi Williams (a Riverside Mom!) won INDY Week’s Best Chef in Durham County in their 2021 Best of the Triangle poll. The authentic Zimbabwean chicken wraps are sure to delight. There will be vegetarian/vegan & gluten free options available. Box lunches may be picked up at the Front Office starting at 11:40am.
Thursday May 5th: A special Cinco de Mayo Loco pops celebration. Teachers and staff may select from an assortment of delicious flavors of popsicles; please come to the Front Office Conference Room between 11a and 1p.
Friday May 6th: The PTA will be delivering gift cards and snacks to all teachers on Friday afternoon. Please note that there will not be a FriYay this week - the next and final FriYay of the school year will be held on May 20.
Riverside Families - please join the PTA in recognizing the awesome accomplishments of our teachers and staff during this special week - consider sending in treats or gifts or writing special thank you to your teachers."
Next, please join me in welcoming Ms. Addison, a DPS retired counselor to our RHS family. She will complete the year with us in the absence of Ms. Sebring.
Lastly, Riverside Athletics invites all incoming freshmen to our new student-athlete information night, May 10th at 7 pm in the auditorium. Please come out and meet our coaches and find our way to get involved at Riverside.
That said, parents please continue to help us enforce the DPS Code of Conduct by ensuring that your student adheres to the rules, policies and procedures set forth. Students show your school pride by wearing our school colors on Friday. I will see each of you at the River tomorrow. Go forth and make it a great evening! Roll Pirates Roll!!
