Good afternoon RHS families,
This is Dr. Woods-Weeks calling with the weekly update. A heartfelt thank you to our amazing PTA for organizing the Friyah Breakfast this past Friday! It was enjoyed and appreciated by all. Your efforts to support and celebrate our staff mean the world to us.
A special shoutout to our incredible JROTC Cadets, Sgt. McPherson, Ms. Heape, Ms. Ballon, and AP Stroud for your outstanding representation of Riverside at the Showcase of Schools this past Saturday. Your dedication and professionalism truly showcased the best of what our school has to offer.
Thank you all for your hard work and commitment to excellence!

Great job, Pirates! Keep making us proud!
Chromebook Update:
After careful consideration and a recent SIT vote, the decision has been made to keep the laptops in teachers’ classrooms for the remainder of this school year. This approach ensures that every student has access to a device during the school day.
Each teacher will receive a laptop cart designated for classroom use. Additionally, students will be allowed to check out laptops from the media center overnight if needed for specific assignments.
Please note, we currently do not have enough devices for every student to have an individual Chromebook assigned to them. This plan has been implemented to maximize the resources we have available and ensure equitable access for all students.
Thank you for your cooperation and understanding as we move forward with this plan. 😊
Additionally, I want to share an important update regarding transportation services for our students. For the next three weeks beginning Monday, Dec. 2 through Friday, Dec. 20, Durham Public Schools will implement rotational bus service due to the ongoing shortage of bus drivers across the district.
Families will be responsible for transporting their students to and from school one day each week, with bus service provided four days per week. This approach will help in managing the shortage efficiently, ensuring that our current drivers can cover more routes equitably.
This is a temporary measure as DPS is actively working to resolve transportation issues. And while we know this will present a hardship for some families who have benefitted from daily bus service thus far this school year, we ask for your patience and for the understanding that this is a more equitable solution for all.
This will provide four days of service for everyone, including those families who have had inconsistent service up to this point.
For our school, families whose students ride these buses will be responsible for transporting your children to and from school on the indicated days:
Mondays: Buses 646 and 655
Tuesdays: Buses 624, 213, and 134
Wednesdays: Buses 24,118/612, 115, 229, and 631
Thursdays: Buses 240 and 243
Fridays: Buses 38, 656, and 623
Please visit DPSNC.net for the complete rotational bus service schedule.
DPS will excuse tardiness for students on late buses and absences for students who miss school due to canceled bus routes. We will continue to investigate the possibility of retroactively excusing absences due to canceled bus routes.
Thank you very much for your patience and understanding and contact the school if you have questions or concerns.
Tuesday, November 26th, is an Early Release Day. School will be dismissed at 2:15 PM. Please plan accordingly.
Lastly, to all our parents and students, have a Happy Thanksgiving! Enjoy the time with your families and friends, and please stay safe during the holiday season.
