Good afternoon, Pirate families,This is Dr. Woods-Weeks calling with the weekly update. Please join me in congratulating orchestra students Gwyneth Bernhardt and Jesse May, who made the 2024 Eastern Region Orchestra! They auditioned last weekend in Greenville among hundreds of string players in the Eastern half of NC. They will participate in the ERO Clinic at the end of February at Eastern Carolina University, along with several others from DPS."On Tuesday, January 30th, Riverside High School will host a New to AIG Information Session from 6:00-7:00pm in the Riverside High School media center.  This event is for students and families of newly identified AIG students. We will discuss what AIG means and the programs and supports that we offer advanced students at Riverside. Please plan to attend if you have received AIG identification paperwork this year from our AIG specialist Ms. Messersmith."Reports cards will be distributed on January 23, 2024.The School Improvement team will meet Wednesday, January 24, 204 at 5:00pm in the media center. All members are asked to attend.AthleticsCongratulations RHS Swim team as the Women’s team beat both Jordan and Northern. The Men’s team beat Northern but lost to Jordan.The Riverside Swim team will have a chance to participate in the conference Meet at the Triangle Aquatics Center on January 24, 2024, at 10:00 am.  Please wish them luck.Congratulations to wrestler Daniel Dickerson who picked up his 100th win this past week. He also finished in 1st place at this weekend's Silver Fox Wrestling Tournament.  Richard Campbell also picked up a huge win and placed 1st in his respective weight class at the same tournament.  The Wrestling team is set to travel to Northern Durham for their Final Meet of the regular season on January 18, 2024.Riverside Basketball will Host East Chapel Hill on January 23, 2024, JV Boys at 5 pm, Varsity Girls at 6:30, and Varsity Boys at 8 pm.  Riverside Basketball will travel to Northern on January 26, 2024.Ticket To Play dates for Spring Sports are as follows Jan 22nd , 23rd , 29th , and 30th during both lunches, location, the PLTW hallway.  All students interested in trying out forspring sports must have completed Athletic Registration and a Ticket To Play to try out.Tickets can be purchased by card or online at TICKETS.  All DPS athletic events observe a "Clear Bag Only" policy in conjunction with no Re-Entry.  For more information about winter sports please visit AdvisingUPCOMING EVENTS:College Visits: *These opportunities are open to Juniors and Seniors only.
