Good afternoon RHS families, this is Dr. Woods-Weeks calling with the weekly update.
CONGRATULATIONS to the Women's and Men's Cross-Country teams last week as both competed and placed in the regional championships. Both Teams have advanced to the state championship.
Thank you to all staff, students, and the Pirates Cove student section for a successful fall sports season.
School Make-Up Pictures
Make up picture day for all grades will be Thursday, November 16, 2023. Mark Your Calendar!
Pirate Block
● Daily 40-minute flex period/intervention block scheduled into school day
● Allows students scheduled opportunities for:
○ Individualized and small-group enrichment/tutoring
○ Additional EC, ELL and 504 supports
○ Non-instructional time to complete assessments, labs, assignments
○ Pre-ACT, ACT and ACCESS testing prep sessions
○ Independent study: time to work on homework; collaborate
○ Wednesdays are dedicated to Social Emotional Learning activities and supports developed by DPS and RHS Student Services teams
○ Clubs
• To meet our academic goals for the school year, students must take advantage of the Pirate Block and seek tutoring where needed. This period is designed for all students to accelerate. Do your part.
As a reminder:
Our first lockdown drill for the year is Monday, October 30th at 10:00 AM. The drill will take approximately 30-45 minutes. Please do not be alarmed. It is a drill.
PSAT testing will resume Monday, October 30, 2023. See Ms. Reeves for more details.
PreACT Testing will resume on Tuesday, October 31st through Thursday, November 9th. Students if you have not taken the test, please plan to do so Tuesday.
Tuesday, October 31, 2023, is the last day of the first quarter.
Wednesday, November 1, 2023, is a teacher workday. No school for students.
The second quarter will begin Thursday, November 2, 2023. Students you walk into your classes with an A. It is up to you to keep it.
Grades will be available in the Parent Portal and Report cards will be distributed on, Tuesday, November 7, 2023. If you do not have a parent portal account please contact Mr. Garcia, our data manager.
Tuesday, November 7, 2023, is a TWD, no school for students.
Friday, November 10, 2023, is a Holiday. No School.
PTA
The next PTA Meeting is Monday, November 6, 2023, at 6:30 PM in the Media Center.
Athletics
This week in athletics, the first Basketball Game will be against Person High on November 17th.
All student-athletes interested in Basketball, Swimming, Wrestling, and Indoor Track should complete the online registration via the athletics website. All students who intend on trying out will need to get a Ticket to Play. Ticket-to-play date this week is OCT. 30th during lunch A/B. Parents if you have any questions please contact the athletic trainer at Erin_Samuels@dpsnc.net

There's also a free ACT prep class on December 9.

Parents, please continue to help us enforce the DPS Code of Conduct by ensuring that your student adheres to the policies and procedures set forth.
