Good afternoon, Pirate families,

This is Dr. Woods-Weeks calling with the weekly update. For the safety of all our students the doors of the school will remain locked during the school day. If you come to school during the day, please go to the front entrance and use the intercom to communicate with the office staff. They will assist you in entering the building.

Additionally, in the interest of safety for all of our students, please observe the car rider procedures for arrival and dismissal time.

Parents thank you for your patience as we continue to adjust student schedules. There have been several changes for EL students and general ed students due increased enrollment. We are working diligently to resolve all issues by the 10-day drop/add period.

Also thank you for your patience as we continue to distribute devices to our students. Currently we are short on chargers; however we hope to have the situation resolved this week.

As you may have heard, there was a fight in the girls bathroom in the cafeteria on Friday that prompted us to end lunch early and return all students to their 4th period block. All students were given the opportunity to each lunch and I am pleased to report that no child was seriously injured.

As a reminder, Curriculum Night will be held, Tuesday, September 12th, 2023, for ALL students and parents from 6:00pm-7:30pm. Our faculty will be available to meet and greet ALL parents and students alike. We will begin in the auditorium with a presentation from our amazing PTA, you will hear a brief overview of our curriculum from counselors; and a brief 10-minute presentation from your scholars’ teachers in each classroom.

We look forward to seeing each of you. Please govern yourselves accordingly to the following schedule:
o    6:00 – 6:05 p.m. – Welcome/ PTA Presentation
o    6:05 – 6:20 p.m. - General Curriculum Information Session
o    6:25 - 6:35 p.m. -   Parents and students report to 1st Period classes
o    6:45 – 6:55 p.m. – Parents and Students report to 2nd Period classes
o    7:00 – 7:10 p.m. -   Parents and Students report to 3rd Period classes
o    7:20 – 7:30 p.m. -   Parents and Students report to 4th Period classes
o               7:30 p.m. -   Closing Remarks 

This week in athletics, RHS Field Hockey will play at home on September 11th against Cape Fear Academy, and Tennis will also host Chapel Hill on September 11th. Volleyball will host Southern Durham on September 13th, and JV Football will host Bartlett Yancy on September 14th.   
o    All student-athletes interested in Basketball, Swimming, Wrestling, and Indoor Track should complete the online registration via the athletics website. 
o    The next home football game will be October 6th  against Chapel Hill this is our Homecoming game. Wear “Purple” to show your school spirit. Get your purple RHS shirts now! Please visit the athletics website for tickets, spirit wear and athletic registration.

Mark your Calendar! The School Improvement Team (SIT) will meet Wednesday, September 29, 2023, at 5:00pm. If you are a parent interested in becoming a member of the SIT, please call the front office and give your name and number to Ms. Monroe.

Lastly, parents, please help us enforce DPS Code of Conduct by ensuring that your student adheres to the rules, policies and procedures set forth. Students show your school pride by wearing our school colors on Friday. I will see each of you at the River tomorrow! Roll Pirates Roll!!
