Riverside High School Introduces New Lunch Format for SY 2023-2024
This year as some of you are aware, we are introducing a new lunch format for the 2023-2024 school year due to safety challenges associated with SMART Lunch. The lunch schedule has been updated to ensure that opportunities for tutoring, clubs, and social engagement remain available in a safe environment. Beginning August 28, two lunch periods will be offered, and students will be assigned to one of the two lunch periods held during the school day (Lunch A and Lunch B).
Here’s how it will work for illustrative purposes: • You will be notified of your lunch assignment through your homeroom teacher • During the 40-minute Pirate Block, students will return to the following classes on said designated days: • Monday – 1st period • Tuesday – 2nd period • Wednesday – 2nd period - SEL/ HR activity • Thursday – 3rd period • Friday – 4th period
• You may sign up for a club activity to be determined later
During Pirate Block period students will benefit from the following opportunities:
• Onsite college visits • Individualized and small group enrichment/tutoring • Differentiated and additional Exceptional Children (EC), English Language Learner (ESL), and 504 supports • Non-instructional time to make up missing tests, labs, and assignments • Collaborative group work • Pre-ACT, ACT, and Access prep sessions • Independent study time to work on homework • Wednesdays are dedicated to homeroom advisor/advisee activities and Social Emotional Learning activities and supports developed by DPS and RHS Student Services team
