Good afternoon, Pirate families, this is Dr. Woods-Weeks calling with an update. The academic year for our students will start on Monday, August 28, 2023. The school day begins at 9:15 a.m. and ends at 4:15 p.m.Also, as a reminder:-- Freshman Orientation and students new to Riverside will be held, Thursday, August 24, 2023, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.-- Open House for all students will be held Friday, August 25, 2023, from 5:00 pm. to 7:00 p.m. There will be food trucks and other vendors available for our Riverside family.  Students will get the opportunity to meet and greet teachers in their classroomsRiverside High School Introduces New Lunch Format for SY 2023-2024This year as some of you are aware, we are introducing a new lunch format for the 2023-2024 school year due to safety challenges associated with SMART Lunch. The lunch schedule has been updated to ensure that opportunities for tutoring, clubs, and social engagement remain available in a safe environment. Beginning August 28, two lunch periods will be offered, and students will be assigned to one of the two lunch periods held during the school day (Lunch A and Lunch B).Here’s how it will work for illustrative purposes:•    You will be notified of your lunch assignment through your homeroom teacher•    During the 40-minute Pirate Block, students will return to the following classes on said designated days:•    Monday – 1st period•    Tuesday – 2nd period•    Wednesday – 2nd period - SEL/ HR activity•    Thursday – 3rd period•    Friday – 4th period•    You may sign up for a club activity to be determined laterDuring Pirate Block period students will benefit from the following opportunities:•    Onsite college visits•    Individualized and small group enrichment/tutoring•    Differentiated and additional Exceptional Children (EC), English Language Learner (ESL), and 504 supports•    Non-instructional time to make up missing tests, labs, and assignments•    Collaborative group work•    Pre-ACT, ACT, and Access prep sessions•    Independent study time to work on homework•    Wednesdays are dedicated to homeroom advisor/advisee activities and Social Emotional Learning activities and supports developed by DPS and RHS Student Services team   If you have further questions, please upload them to this Google survey form so that we may address your concern or inquiry.We appreciate your cooperation and acceptance of this new format in the interest of our safety and ask that you continue to serve as ambassadors for our school’s security and academic success.
