Good afternoon, Pirate families,This is Dr. Woods-Weeks calling with the weekly update. Congratulations to the Riverside Dance Team under the tutelage of Ms. Duncan for a stellar performance of "The Princess and the Frog" last week. It was a sensational performance.Also, congratulations to the JROTC for a spectacular evening of amazing awards and recognition at Friday night’s banquet. You are to be commended for a job well done students! Hats off to Major Bailey for all you do for our school community. It was a marvel evening.Please join us for “Teacher Appreciation Week, May 8-12 as we honor our amazing educators who drive the future leaders of tomorrow! Let’s show our support for our children’s teachers and tell them how much their commitment and dedication to our children is so appreciated.” 😊Parents, we have just five weeks left before we begin final exams. Progress reports will be distributed Monday, May 8, 2023. Please ensure your scholar shares this/her report. There is still time to improve and finish the year strong. If you have questions or concerns about your scholar’s performance, please contact the teacher of record. We want a strong finish for everyone! Let me know how I may assist.Earlier this spring, the date of this week's orchestra concert was changed from Friday, May 12th to Thursday, May 11th so as not to conflict with the Engineering Program’s field trip. The Band and Chorus concert will be held Thursday, May 11, 2023, from 7:00 – 9:00 p.m. Please come out Thursday, May 11th and support our students.Summer School UpdatesSummer Learning is slated to begin June 12 – August 11, 2023.  See schedule below for specific dates:    Take 2: June 12-16, 2023    Credit Recovery in person support: June 19-29, 2023    Credit Recovery virtual support: June12-July 28, 2023If you need to do credit recovery for a core class that you were unsuccessful with this school year, please reach out to your school counselor ASAP. We don’t want you to miss the opportunity to gain those credits this summer so you can be back on track when school starts in the fall. Mark your Calendar and stay tuned for more detailed information to come!Athletics UpdateYour athletics department would like to wish all our golf team good luck as they are competing. They finished in 2nd place in the DAC VII (the school's highest finish in 10 years). Two Riverside golfers (Eli Matheson and Bruce Clayton III) made the all-conference team.  They will compete in the 4A Mideast Regional Tournament on Monday, May 8th.  You Rock team!The Track and Field team will travel to Green Level this weekend in the 4A Regional Championships. Wish them luck!!!Monday, May 8th the varsity soccer team will play South Alamance as they look to close out conference play.   Interested in trying out for cheerleading, tryouts will be held May 19th, and May 20th, please contact Coach Kayla_Thompson@dpsnc.net for more details.   Save the Date May 30th, the Athletics Department will have a meeting for all incoming freshmen who are interested in sports. You will meet coaches, obtain information about summer workouts, and more. Need an athletics sports physical? Duke will host their annual physical night Tuesday May 16th, 2023, from 6-8 pm at the Duke Sports Science Institute located at 3475 Erwin Rd, Durham, NC 27705.  All are welcome to attend.As a reminder:    AP Exams will continue this week. The schedule for testing times, dates, and locations is available on the website. Govern yourselves accordingly!    EOY-Final Benchmark window closed on Wednesday. Now the work continues. It is critical that students arrive to school daily, on time prepared to learn. We are poised to do the work, students we need you to do your part. Come to school!That said, please continue to help us enforce the DPS Code of Conduct by ensuring that your student adheres to the rules, policies and procedures set forth.
