Good afternoon, Pirate families,This is Dr. Woods-Weeks calling with the weekly update. Our prom last evening was an epic event. Congratulations to the Homecoming King - Arliss “AJ” Butler and, Homecoming Queen - Janika Bunch, Homecoming Prince - Francisco Forrester, and Homecoming Princess – Taylor Scarlett.A heartfelt thank you to the Ms. Nelson-Burgess, Mr. Hayes, Ms. Thompson, Ms. Greenwood, Ms Wood and Mr. Bradshaw for a great evening of fun. It was epic. The best prom ever. And thank you to all the faculty and staff in attendance. Your presence was seen and felt in every room. The students had a marvelous time! Thank you, thank you for all you do for our students and your commitment to excellence.Also, congratulations to our new NHS Inductees. Keep up the good work!The Pirate Promise is a partnership between Durham Public Schools, North Carolina Department of Public Instruction, the North Carolina Community College System, and the University of North Carolina College System that allows rising 11th grade students to enroll tuition-free in college courses that enables these students to simultaneously earn high school and college credits.  As part of this initiative, professors from Durham Technical community College next school year will be teaching classes on-campus here at Riverside. We will have an information meeting with rising 11th graders on Monday at 10:45 a.m. in the auditorium and a parent informational session via zoom on Thursday, May 4 at 6 pm.  Here is a link to our Pirate Promise flyer, a link to the Powerpoint we will present to students and family, and a link to the zoom meeting (which is also on the school calendar on the school website): https://dpsnc.zoom.us/j/92287358735.We would like to take time the thank all of the springs sports teams who have concluded their regular season.  This year has been one for the books.  Softball will host their last home game of the season Tuesday, 5/2 at 6:30 pm as they play in the DAC 7 tournament against Chapel Hill.  Baseball will host Hillside 5/3 at 6:00 pm.  Our Track and Field team will compete in the DAC 7 All-Conference meet Tuesday 5/2 at Durham County Stadium. Good luck to all our teams who are still competing.  Lastly please join us in congratulating Jordon Riley a Riverside alum who was drafted in this weekend’s NFL Draft.  He is the second multi-sport athlete to be drafted from Riverside in the past 4 years Last year Jeff Gunter was drafted by the Cincinnati Bengals.  https://www.highschoolot.com/riverside-durham-alum-jordon-riley-drafted-by-the-new-york-giants/20836350/Riverside-Durham alum Jordon Riley drafted by the New York GiantsThe New York Giants selected Riverside-Durham alumnus Jordan Riley with the 243rd overall selection in the 2023 NFL Draft. Your thoughts are necessary and important as we plan for your student’s academic success. We look forward to seeing you.    The PTA meeting will be held Tuesday, May 2, 2023, at 6:30 p.m. in the media center.    Window opens for AP testing, please plan accordingly.    Dance Show on Thursday and Friday from 7:00 – 9:00 p.m.That said, please continue to help us enforce the DPS Code of Conduct by ensuring that your student adheres to the rules, policies and procedures set forth.
