Good afternoon RHS families,This is Dr. Woods-Weeks calling with the weekly update. Congratulations to our Air Force Junior ROTC, under the tutelage of Major Bailey for a spectacular Military Dining Out evening last night. It was a fun filled evening of great food, entertainment, and dance enjoyed by all. Job well done!This week is going to be a non-eventful week. We have just this week left before spring break. Spring Break is the week of March 27-31, 2023. The end of the third quarter is Friday, March 24, 2023.National Honor SocietyThe Riverside National Honor Society Application window opened Thursday March 16th and closes Tuesday April 4th. Sophomores and Juniors with a 3.0 GPA or higher should check their DPS email for the invitation and instructions on how to apply. For questions, please contact NHS advisor, Victoria_watson@dpsnc.netRamadanRamadan will be observed by the Islamic community in the U.S. beginning the evening of Wednesday, March 22nd to the evening of Friday, April 21st. RHS has several students who observe the traditions and customs of Ramadan.Panorama SEL Survey – Spring WINDOW Is Open (March 13th-24th).Identifying the immediate SEL needs of all our students remains a priority for our work. We are continuing to press for full 95% or better participation on our Panorama SEL survey. This survey serves as our universal screener for behavior and social emotional wellness. This analyzed data is also used in decision-making about programming and resources designed to support our students. Students can complete the survey during class or independently. Please encourage your student to complete the surveys honestly using the link below:surveys.panoramaed.com/dpsncSchool Improvement TeamThe School Improvement Team will meet Wednesday, March 22nd at 5:00 p.m. in the media center.Growing TogetherNext, Durham Public Schools wants to hear from you! Starting last Monday, March 13, you received a survey to complete it. We will use your input to update academic programs and school boundaries for middle and high schools through the Growing Together student reassignment initiative. The survey closes on Friday, March 31. Thank you in advance!Athletics UpdateYour Pirate Baseball team knocked off Northern Durham last Friday night in the battle on the Eno with a final score of 5-4.  The game was sealed by outfielder Kevin Shine as he made a diving catch to end the game.The Riverside Baseball team will host Jordan High Friday night. JV at 5 pm and Varsity at 7 pm.Riverside Softball team is now 5-2 and off to the best start the program has seen in 10 years.  Last Friday night the Pirates defeated Hillside High School in a doubleheader where your pirates won 18-2 and 11-2. This week they will host Chapel Hill Friday at 6pm.Riverside Men's Tennis Defeated Southern Alamance last week and look to continue their streak this week as they host Chapel Hill Monday, and East Chapel Hill Wednesday.As a reminder:Sophomores, Juniors, and Seniors: Are you interested in starting college courses tuition-free while in high school during the summer and/or fall 2023 semester? If so, please sign up for a CCP Information Session via Zoom here. If none of those dates work, please sign up for one hosted via Zoom by a Durham Tech colleague here. Attending one information session is mandatory to join CCP. Parents are welcome to attend. During the Information Session, you will learn about the various pathways, admission requirements, application process, deadlines and more. (Relevant until April 17th).The goal for DPS is to have 100% of our students’ parents or guardians having access to a Parent Portal account. Our data manager, Mr. Bryan Garcia can assist with Parent Portal account creation and password reset. The district average has surpassed 90%!!!  Let's keep pushing towards our goal of 100%!
