This is Dr. Woods-Weeks calling with the weekly update. I hope you all had a restful weekend! We have seven days left before winter break. Let’s keep the main thing the main thing.
Congratulations to the RHS Dance team for a stellar performance of The Land of Sweets last Thursday and Friday evening under the tutelage of Ms. Duncan. Kudos to you!
Congratulations to the six Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) students who competed in the NC Future Business Leaders of America Triangle East Regional Competitive Events Conference in Raleigh this weekend. They were accompanied by Ms. Brooks and Ms. Henry. Sophomore James Mitchell Brennan finished in 2nd place for the Job Interview Competition. He will go on to represent the Triangle East Region at the state competition/conference in Greensboro NC (March 23-25, 2023). Congratulations to all.
Also, Congratulations to the following students for being accepted to their choice schools. The class of 2023 HAS NOW EXCEEDED $2,000,000 IN SCHOLARSHIPS. Stay tuned for more to come.

Next, the Band Concert is Tuesday, December 13th at 7:00 pm. Come one come all.
The PTA presents Bob Patterson “The College Admission Process” (via zoom) on Wednesday, Dec. 14th at 7:00 pm. Bob Patterson is a former chair of highly selective admission committees including Stanford University, the University of Pittsburgh, UNC Chapel Hill, and University of California Berkeley, he is well versed in the entire application process for both domestic and international students. Chorus Concert will be held Wednesday, December 15 from 7:00-9:00pm. Please come out and support our students.
Grade level assemblies will be held Thursday, December 16th. Follow the directive of your teachers for period and time.
Also, Thursday December 16th is Ugly Christmas Sweater Day at the River. Students and faculty are asked to show their school spirit by wearing an ugly Christmas sweater on Thursday as we embark upon the holiday season.

This week in athletics at Riverside, Basketball will host Northern Durham Tuesday at home on December 13th, JV Boys at 5:00 pm, Varsity Girls at 6:30 pm, and Varsity boys at 8:00 pm.

Lastly, Tuesday, December 20th is an Early Release Day. School will be dismissed at 2:15 p.m. All students must be picked up no later than 2:30 p.m. Please plan accordingly
The Winter Break begins Wednesday December 21st - January 3rd for students. December 21st is an optional teacher work day.
That said, parents please continue to help us enforce the DPS Code of Conduct by ensuring that your student adheres to the policies and procedures set forth.
