Good afternoon RHS families,
This is Dr. Woods-Weeks calling with the weekly update. I hope you all had a restful Veteran’s Day weekend!
Congratulations to the RHS Band for a stellar performance last Thursday evening under the tutelage of Mr. Mann. Kudos to you!
Congratulations to the A/B Honor Roll students for your amazing hard work first quarter. We hope you enjoyed your celebration last Thursday. If you did not receive your certificate of accomplishment, please stop by the counseling office, and see Ms. Tonya McKoy to retrieve.
Also, Congratulations to Scarlett Guckian for being accepted to Temple University.
Next, all students in grade eleven will be taking a survey regarding school climate and the overall learning environment at our school (online) November 14 thru December 9, 2022. This survey will help our school learn more about the school’s climate and safety and to help make our school better along with supporting student success. Please encourage your child to take the survey seriously and answer questions honestly. Thank you for your help and support with our Student Climate Survey.
The goal for DPS is to have 100% of our students with a parent or guardian holding a Parent Portal account. To date we are not one of those schools who have reached 100% participation. Please see our data manager Bryan Garcia to create and assist with Parent Portal account creation and password reset.
The ACT Fall WorkKeys assessment will be administered to our 12th grade CTE concentrators November 14 - December 9.
The Final “EOY” Benchmark window is November 16-22. Mark Your Calendar! We must have 100% participation to determine where we are and what we need to do to finish the semester strong. Please govern yourselves accordingly.
The SGA is hosting their annual Thanksgiving basket drive. All donations will be collected in second period classes. The second period class with the most donations will win a Chick-fi-la breakfast from the SGA. See Ms. Minnick for more details.
DPS Showcase of Schools will be held Saturday, November 19th from 10:00 – 1:00 pm at the Durham Convention Center.
The Thanksgiving Holiday begins Wednesday, November 23rd for students.
As a reminder:
- All graduating students for all ceremonies must purchase a cap and gown for graduation. You do NOT have to buy anything else. All other items are optional.
- Senior makeup picture day is November 29th. Mark your Calendar!
- Lastly, parents and students, please nominate a teacher for the PTA Pirate Hook Award. This award goes to any teacher or worker who has gone above and beyond the call of duty.

That said, parents please continue to help us enforce the DPS Code of Conduct by ensuring that your student adheres to the policies and procedures set forth. Students show your school pride by wearing our school colors on Friday. I will see each of you at the River tomorrow. Go forth and make it a great evening. Roll Pirates Roll! Thank you.
