Project Graduation was conceived in 1988 when there was a widespread concern in the community about the sale and use of illegal drugs and alcohol by Durham youth. Due to an enormous, sustained effort, it has become a wonderful tradition in Durham, attracting a majority of Durham Public School graduates each year. Few communities with similar programs can claim such a stellar record. The Project Graduation effort is the community at its best — people with diverse racial/ethnic backgrounds working closely together for the well-being of these young people.
