McKinney-Vento (MKV) is a program to assist students and their families who lack a fixed, regular, and adequate nighttime residence.  If your family is living on the streets, having to live with another family, or in a hotel or shelter, you are entitled to McKinney-Vento services.

You have the right to:

  • Receive the free, appropriate public education
  • Be enrolled in school immediately, even if you lack normal enrollment documentation. Your student can attend classes while the school gathers the needed information
  • Receive transportation to and from the school of origin, if you request this
  • Receive assistance with school supplies and payment for school field trips
