Principal’s Weekly message – Week of 8/1

 

Wow!  I can hardly believe we are already headed into our third week of school! Thank you for helping us ensure a smooth start to the school year.  Thank you for your patience and flexibility as everyone is acclimated to carpool arrival and dismissal procedures. Car pool is long but first and foremost we will be safe.  We are working out the kinks and things are running smoothly.

 

Carpool Safety Procedures

We anticipate long carpool lines the first couple of weeks of school. Here are a few things you may do to help ensure the smoothest and safest carpool process possible:

1. Do not arrive before 3:15pm. Arriving before 3:15pm only contributes to the backup on the main road before carpool begins.  The carpool line will not begin before 3:20pm.
2. Remain in your vehicle.  Parents should not walk up to the door or gather in front of the building. Carpool students will not be released out the front door after 3:00pm.
3. Display the name placard in your front window.
4. Inform others of the car pool process. If a relative or different person is picking up your child from carpool for the first time, inform them of the current carpool procedures, remaining in their vehicle and expected long wait time before they arrive so they are not alarmed when they arrive and see the line.
5. Be calm, kind and patient. We are working diligently to ensure students come down quickly. Parents have two options, carpool or bus transportation.  If you do not want your child to ride the bus for whatever reason and you are choosing carpool. Patience is key!

 

Walkers and Bike Riders

Students are not released to walk home or bike ride home without prior approval.  If you want your child to be a walker or bike rider email Principal Rogers directly at Kecia_Rogers@dpsnc.net and the school will follow up with a phone call to you to confirm.  Once approved your child will be given permission to walk or bike ride home.  Please note, there is a special dismissal process for our approved walkers and bike riders. Walkers and bike riders are dismissed together to meet a Rogers-Herr staff members outside the school and not in the front of the school. The walker/bike rider roll is taken and then walkers/bikers are permitted to leave campus at one time. A request for a student to be a walker or bike rider must be submitted 24 hours in advance and may not be submitted the day of. Due to heavy traffic and safety concerns, students will not be granted approval to walk across the street towards the Wachovia or Biscuitville area. Thank you for helping to ensure our students remain safe.

 

School Hours

Parents please ensure your child is present and on time daily. Our school doors open at 8:00am to students. All students should plan to arrive to school no later than 8:15am. Arriving no later than 8:15am ensures your child has plenty of time to get acclimated each morning before instruction begins at 8:30.  Students walking in the door at 8:30 or after 8:30am feel rushed and miss instruction. Thank you for your support as you ensure your child arrives to school no later than 8:15am each morning.

 

VISITORS TO DPS

Please schedule a meeting with RH staff before coming to campus. Teachers, staff and administrators are not available to have impromptu meetings before, during or afterschool. We are committed to responding to emails and phone calls within 24 business hours (Mondays-Fridays). If you have questions and/or concerns we are here to work together to problem solve.

 

Encore After School Program

The Encore! Afterschool program is organized and run by the DPS Community Education department. Encore follows a modified schedule that starts August 1, and ends May 11, 2022. The program operates Monday-Thursday from 3:20pm - 5:30 pm. There is no Encore on Fridays, Early Release or Inclement Weather days. Students must be picked up by 6:30pm to avoid late fees if they're not riding the bus. Communication between home to school and school to home is vital to each child's success

If there are immediate concerns or questions please contact your child's teacher first. The classroom teacher is the first line of communication. If additional support is needed to problem solve after communicating with the teacher please feel free to contact the grade level administrator. Assistant Principal Dr. Tawauna Stewart is the 6th grade administrator; Dr. Ernetta Cagle is the 7^th grade administrator and Mr. Otis Maben is the 8^th grade administrator. Problem solving early and often are among our top priorities. If you need help navigating this process please do not hesitate to contact the main office at any time by dialing 919-560-3970.

 

Early Pick-Up & Transportation Changes

The school day and instruction does not end until 3:20pm each day.  Parents are discouraged from routinely picking up students early from school. It is important for students to arrive on time and remain in school the entire day.  However, if there is a need for an early pick-up or transportation change please note students will not be dismissed after 3:00pm. All early pick-ups and transportation changes must be made before 3:00pm.  Pick-ups and transportation changes made after 3:00pm will not be honored as they pose a safety hazard during our busy dismissal time.  Our priority is student safety and ensuring all students get to where they are supposed to be safely each afternoon.  As a result, we appreciate your support and compliance with not picking up students after 3:00pm or calling to make transportation changes after 3:00pm.  Requests made after 3:00pm will not be honored. Thank you for understanding and supporting this important safety dismissal procedure. 

 

Athletic Update

In order for students to participate in athletics, parents must complete the registration process and students must have a current physical on file.

Step 3: Bring the sports physical to school 

After registration is complete You will only need to bring a copy of the physical to school for optional conditioning or the first day of tryouts. 

Students without a completed registration and physical education cannot participate in after-school athletics. 

Optional  Fall Conditioning

• Sport Conditioning will be for all Fall Sports (Football, Cheerleading, Volleyball, Boys Soccer) July 25 to Jul 29, 2022  from 3:30 to 5:30 Monday thru Friday
• Students need to wear comfortable clothing and appropriate shoes exercise activities.
• Students will be informed by coaches when cleats or specific athletic shoes need to be form.
• Students cannot attend conditioning with Crocs, any kind of sandal or open toed shoe.
• Conditioning is optional for students. This does not guarantee them a spot on the team.
• Students with specific medical conditions (example asthma) need to complete medical paper workout and submit to Mrs. Lisa Richmond.

Fall Sports Tryouts

• All Fall Sports (Cheerleading, Football, Boys Soccer & Volleyball) will have tryouts on the week of Aug 22, 2022.
• Team rosters will be finalized on August, 26, 2022 
• Coaches may choose to do daily cuts or cuts at the end of the week. More information about selection process will be provided by coaches on Day 1 of tryouts
• Tryouts Time: Afterschool (3:30-5:30pm)
• Students may be picked up at the front the school at the conclusion of tryouts each afternoon
• Families will be informed at  a later date if there are specific items students may need to bring to tryouts
• In order to participate students must complete online registration and provide a physical copy of their sports physical.

Anuncio semanal de la directora – Semana de 8/1

 

¡Guau! ¡Apenas puedo creer que ya estemos en la tercera semana de escuela! Gracias por ayudarnos a tener un buen comienzo de año. Gracias por su paciencia y flexibilidad en lo que todos se acostumbran a los procedimientos de vehículos particulares. La fila es larga pero antes que nada y por sobre todo está la seguridad. Seguimos haciendo pequeños arreglos para que fluya de mejor manera.

 

Procedimiento seguro para vehículos particulares

Anticipamos largas filas de vehículos particulares durante las primeras semanas de escuela. Aquí algunas cosas que puede hacer para ver que en lo posible este proceso sea seguro y más fluido:

1. No llegue antes de las 3:00pm. Llegar antes de las 3:00 sólo contribuye al tráfico de la calle principal antes de que comience este proceso. La fila no debería comenzar antes de las 3:20pm. Todos los buses deben ser despachados antes que los vehículos particulares.
2. Quédese en su vehículo.  Los padres no deben caminar a la puerta principal o juntarse al frente del edificio. Los estudiantes de vehículos particulares no saldrán por la puerta principal después de las 3:00pm.
3. Ponga la pancarta con el nombre en la ventana frontal.
4. Informe a otros sobre el proceso de vehículos particulares. Si un pariente u otra persona diferente va a recoger a su niño en vehículo por primera vez, informele sobre el proceso, que se quede en el vehículo y que habrá una espera algo larga, para que no se sorprenda al llegar y ver la fila.
5. Mantenga la calma, amabilidad y paciencia. Estamos trabajando con diligencia para ver que los estudiantes salgan de manera rápida. Los padres tienen dos opciones, vehículo particular o transporte en bus. Si no quiere que su niño tome el bus por cual sea la razón y elige vehículo particular ¡La paciencia es clave!

 

Estudiantes que caminan y van en bicicleta

Los estudiantes que caminen o anden en bicicleta no saldrán sin ser aprobados previamente. Si usted quiere que su niño camine o ande en bicicleta envíe un correo electrónico a la directora Rogers directamente a Kecia_Rogers@dpsnc.net y la escuela le hará una llamada telefónica para confirmar. Una vez sea aprobado, se le dará permiso a su niño para caminar a casa o ir en bicicleta. Por favor tenga en cuenta que, hay un proceso de salida especial para nuestros estudiantes aprobados. Aquellos que caminan a casa o vayan en bicicleta salen juntos para reunirse con los miembros del personal de Rogers-Herr ubicados afuera de la escuela y no al frente. Se toma lista de aquellos que caminan/van en bicicleta y luego se les permite salir del campus escolar uno a la vez. La solicitud para que un estudiante camine o vaya en bicicleta se debe entregar con 24 horas de anticipación y no el mismo día. Debido a la congestión de tráfico y por cuestión de seguridad, no se aprobará que el estudiante cruce la calle hacia Wachovia o el área de Biscuitville. Gracias por ayudarnos a mantener a nuestros estudiantes a salvo.

 

Horario escolar

Padres, asegúrese de que su hijo esté presente y a tiempo todos los días. Las puertas de nuestra escuela se abren a las 8:00 am para los estudiantes. Todos los estudiantes deben planear llegar a la escuela a más tardar a las 8:15 am. Programa después de escuela Encore

¡Encore! El programa extracurricular está organizado y dirigido por el departamento de Educación Comunitaria de DPS. Encore sigue un cronograma modificado que comienza el 1 de agosto y finaliza el 11 de mayo de 2023. El programa opera de lunes a jueves de 3:20 p. m. a 5:30 p. m. No hay Encore los viernes, salida temprana o días de mal tiempo. Debe recoger a su estudiante a las 6:30 p. m. para evitar recargos por demora si no viajan en el autobús. Comunicación eficaz

La comunicación entre el hogar y la escuela es vital en el éxito de cada niño. Si hay cualquier pregunta o preocupación inmediata, por favor comuníquese con el maestro de su niño primero. El maestro de clases es el primer punto de contacto. Si necesita apoyo adicional para resolver el problema después de haberse comunicado con el maestro primero, por favor contacte al administrador de su nivel de grado. Resolver los problemas de manera pronta y con frecuencia está entre nuestras prioridades principales. Salida temprana y cambios de transporte

El día escolar y la instrucción no terminan hasta las 3:20 p.m. todos los días. No es aconsejable que los padres recojan a los estudiantes temprano de la escuela muy a menudo. Paso 3: Llevar el examen físico a la escuela

Después de completar la inscripción, sólo tendrá que traer una copia del examen físico a la escuela para el acondicionamiento opcional o el primer día de pruebas.

Los estudiantes sin una inscripción completa y el físico no pueden participar en atletismo después de la escuela.                                                                                           

Acondicionamiento opcional de otoño

• El acondicionamiento deportivo será para todos los deportes de otoño (fútbol americano, porristas, voleibol, fútbol masculino) del 25 al 29 de julio de 2022 de 3:30 a 5:30 de lunes a viernes
• Los estudiantes deben usar ropa cómoda y zapatos apropiados para actividades de ejercicio .
• Los entrenadores informarán a los estudiantes cuando usar tacos o zapatos deportivos específicos.
• Los estudiantes no pueden asistir al acondicionamiento con Crocs, cualquier tipo de sandalia o zapato abierto.
• El acondicionamiento es opcional para los estudiantes. Esto no les garantiza un lugar en el equipo.
• Los estudiantes con condiciones médicas específicas (por ejemplo, asma) deben completar el formulario médico y enviarlo a la Sra. Lisa Richmond.
