Weekly Update Dec. 20, 2020
Principal’s Update for the Week of 12/20/20
Thank you to our students, parents, and PTA for the thoughtful and generous holiday gift cards and other gifts! We are truly blessed to have the best students, staff, and families on the planet! J
Thank you to all who supported our school and library by shopping at our virtual book fair! Although the fair is officially over, you can shop anytime, all year long, by visiting https://www.scholastic.com/bf/rogersherr and Rogers-Herr will receive a small portion of the sales.
FBLA chapter members have participated in their first conference of the year. Six members participated in the FBLA Regional Conference. Congratulations! to Gabriella Rosselli and Allison Peterson for placing in the top 10 in the Recognition Test event. FBLA is still accepting chapter members for the school year. The deadline to join is January 15. The state conference will be held virtually in March and we are looking to compete in more events and networking. If you have any questions or want to join please contact Mrs. Crysta Hines, FBLA advisor and business teacher by email.
Magnet Programs and CTE Pathways for the 2021-2022 School Year
Virtual tours and live chat sessions are available as you begin to explore your options for the 2021-2022 school year. Information can be found on the DPS Magnet Programs website, and the application window is Jan. 11-Feb. 5. If you know of families interested in Rogers-Herr, please direct them to the "How to Apply" section of our website where they can take a virtual tour and sign up for one of our live chat Q&A sessions. Note that current 6th and 7th grade students planning to attend Rogers-Herr next year do not need to reapply. If you have questions about the magnet programs or the application process, please contact our Magnet Coordinator at firstname.lastname@example.org or 919-560-3970 ext. 70235.
Attention 8th grade parents: Towards the end of October, 8th grade students learned about DPS high school options during their social studies class. The 8th grade counselor would like to encourage families transitioning to high school to take advantage of the virtual school tours being offered over break. Tour dates can be found on the DPS website. In January, students will be able to apply to up to 3 High Schools through the DPS CTE Pathway/Magnet lottery process. Please take time over the winter break to research program options that best meet the needs of your child.
The GEMS sent out your candy grams this Thursday, the 17th! Make sure students check their outlook inbox for their candy grams. Directions on how to open outlook are on Canvas. Thank you to everyone who got a candy gram and we are excited to be spreading holiday cheer.
Mark your calendars! The winter break for students and staff is Monday, December 21 – Friday, January 1. Students will return to school Monday, January 4. Please note, Monday, January 4th is a DPS Remote Learning Day. This means, there will not be face to face instruction led by the teacher on Monday, January 4th. Students will log on to get their posted assignments for each class and attendance will be taken.
From our family to yours, Happy Holidays and Happy New Year! We look forward to our students returning January 4, 2021.
Thank you for making Rogers-Herr an extraordinary place to learn work and grow! We look forward to seeing all of our students bright and early Tuesday morning, January 5. As always, Rams ROCK!!!
