Principal’s Update for the Week of 11/5

Time Change

Daylight Saving Time 2018 ends Sunday, November 4th. If you have not already done so, set your clocks back one hour so all students arrive at school on time Monday morning. 


Two-Hour Delay Tuesday, Nov.  6

Durham Public Schools will operate on a two-hour delay schedule on Tuesday, Nov. 6, 2018, in observance of Election Day. The school doors will open at 9:00am and school will begin at 9:30am.  Please do not drop off students in front of the school before 9:00am. Busses are expected to arrive 2 hours later than their normal pick-up times. Currently, twenty-one of our schools serve as polling locations. We expect higher-than-normal traffic in the morning at our schools and want to give staff, teachers and our 18-year-old students a greater opportunity to participate in the election.


All County Band

Congratulations to Ms. Cammon and the following students who auditioned and were selected among middle school students across the district to participate in the DPS All-County Band this past week: Andrew Bear, Kailynn Bollinger, Brendan Bortz, Kaelin Cadlett, Hayes Hunter, Lydia Lantz, Max Rosselli, Levi Stine, and Nicholas Williams. The performance held Friday, November 2 was truly outstanding.  Rams ROCK!!!! We have so many talented students at Rogers-Herr.


School Closed Monday, Nov. 12

Mark your calendars, as school will be closed Monday, November 12th in observance of Veteran’s Day.


PTA Un-Fundraiser

We are excited to announce this week we kicked off our 2018 Un-fundraising campaign, the PTA’s most important fundraiser for the year on November 1 and will last until the end of the year. Yes, we are once again sparing you the need to sell doughnuts, candy bars, or overpriced wrapping paper. Instead, we’ll be sending you information soon on some painless ways you can give or contribute to raising the funds we need to support the extracurricular activities that make our school so special. We also hope to raise enough to address some of our immediate technology needs, including digital equipment, educational software, and an electronic billboard to keep you informed about our school events and opportunities. Keep an eye out for more information on how you can participate in this year’s campaign through a tax-deductible donation as well as other ways to volunteer. We intend to put the fun back in fundraising and show the world that, when Rogers-Herr families come together, our collective Ram power can’t be beat.


Athletic Update

We would like to congratulate our Rogers-Herr Football on an incredible season.

Fall Athletic Banquet - Parents, mark your calendars the fall sports banquet is scheduled to be held Thursday, Nov. 15 (6:00-8: 00 pm) in the school’s auditorium. Student-athletes will receive banquet invitation from their coaches. Please complete the invitation and return it to the main office no later than Monday, November 5thso we may have an accurate count for planning purposes.  Thank you for your cooperation.

Basketball Tryouts- Boys and Girls basketball tryouts will begin Monday November 5- Thursday November 8. All athletes interested in trying out for basketball this year must have a current physical and concussion form on file prior to November 2, 2018.


AIG Update

The AIG class is hosting its 4th annual food drive. Giving to the food drive is even more important this year due to the devastation caused in our state by Hurricane Florence. The food drive will run from November 13th to November 20th. The suggested items to donate are canned food, non-perishables food items, toiletries, and diapers. Please help Rogers-Herr help families in North Carolina.
