Weekly Update May 21, 2023

Principal’s Weekly Message – Week of 5/21/23

There are only 4 more instructional days before EOG testing begins.  Testing will begin Friday, May 26.  We do not have a day or minute to waste.

EOG TESTING UPDATE

We will begin testing Friday, May 26-Friday, June 9.  It is important for students to get a good night’s rest and arrive to school on time each testing day.  Students will not be allowed to enter a testing session once testing begins also please do not plan to pick your child up early on their testing days.  State testing regulations prohibit us from entering a testing session once testing begins.  Late students will report to the media center and test on a testing make-up day.

Cell phones, smart watches, fit bits, timers, anything that makes noises are not be allowed in any testing session, will be collected each testing day and returned after the testing session ends.  Consider leaving these items at home on testing days. We do not want anyone to cause a misadministration, which is any disruption to the testing environment.  If there is a misadministration in any testing group, state testing regulations require the entire testing group to retest.

The last day of school for most students will be Friday, June 9.  However, students who do not score a level 3, 4 or 5 on the reading, math, Math I and/or 8th grade science EOGs will be expected to attend TAKE II at Rogers-Herr June 12-June 18 (8:30am-1:00pm) to retake the assessment. Bus transportation, breakfast, and lunch will be provided.  A letter will be sent home with students who are required to attend Take II as soon as the scores are available to the school.

Please note the following upcoming EOG/EOC testing schedule:

Chromebooks and Chargers

Families, as we approach our end-of-year testing, it is vital that students have a working Chromebook and charger. Please check with your child to ensure their DPS device is in optimal condition, and that they have their assigned charger. Please reach out to Jenny Umbarger at jennifer_umbarger@dpsnc.net if you have concerns about your child's device or charger. The IT Department recently indicated that they would not be able to provide replacements for broken or lost chargers. A huge thanks to those who have been able to help us get additional chargers. If you are still able to assist, please purchase from our Amazon wish list and we thank you for your support!
